So I checked out an episode each of:

Samurai Champloo - it was alright, I really don't like the opening song... a little too hip-hop for me, but overall okay.

Cowboy Bebop - I love the blues style and the gun shooting violence. My type of anime, reminds me of Akira.

Death Note - well-written and very interesting. I want to see the next episode.

Hajime No Ippo - it was alright.

Lots of awesome anime in this thread- I totally forgot about Ninja Scroll- that's probably my all-time favorite anime movie. Awesome ninja action!

Hajimi no Ippo is one of those series that you have to watch several episodes of to get into.

Thanks for the tip. I remember being recommended this before but I never checked it out. Downloading now.

I also really liked X, but it would have way too many slow moments/flashbacks that seemed like filler. I also seconded whoever said Lupin the 3rd. Fun show to watch. And I just looked it up. I always thought I heard a Lupin reference in Sky High by Kanye West:

    Lupe Fiasco's line:
Yes, yes, yes guess who's on third?
Lupe still like Lupin the Third.

Heheh tackling 4 different animes at once :).....

Death Note - I cant rave about it enough.. Its such a different type of plot/twist/drama (you name it) that it just keeps you coming back for more..

Hajime no Ippo- Probably one of my all time favorite series.. One of the poster above stated it takes a couple of episodes in to really get interesting ( Which is true )

Well I started watching Hajime No Ippo (about a dozen episodes in), and I'm hooked which I figured would happen.
HNI has the same kind of fomat of Hikaru No Go, which I really liked, so no surprised I guess.

One comment about Hajime No Ippo though. The character design on some of their characters is way off
(especially the opponents). These guys are supposed to be featherweights in the 120 lbs range, and they look
absolutely massive. Especially when they pit Ippo against a guy that's a lot taller than him. That one dude with
the flicker jab looks to have like 5 inches and 20 lbs on Ippo, but they're supposed to be about the same weight.

Still, it's a really great series. Plus the theme song is classic, "I want to dive lost mind... I want to dive lost mind..."
You got to love these Japanese songs with a bit of Engrish in 'em.

Death Note sounds pretty cool too. I'll catch some of that when I get a chance.

Just finished watching two episodes. This is great stuff. Your description sums it up perfectly. I'm hooked. Since so many people are raving about Death Note, I'll check this out next.

Well surprised that no one mentioned any of my favorites so far:

    ramna 1/2
    love hina

kenshin, ronin warriors (kind of lame now but I used to get up at 630 am to watch it and discuss the episode with my friend on the walk to school)

i've seen some naruto its not too bad but i never get time to watch them in order

i've also liked the original dragonball, not dragonball z.

and yeah while i havent rubbed one out to salior man i've had some bad thoughts about them all especially wanting to be tuxedo rose (hey i was a little kid)

I was almost going to list Love Hina. But in retrospect the manga was waaaay better. For me it made the anime feel just 'ok'.

I find it funny sometimes, when I am about to respond and you have already written what I was thinking.

This was the first thing I thought of.

    :D
