Great, great hitter. He outdid Judge (and everyone else) in OPS this year. Add his defense and baserunning, he might be the greatest player in the last 30 years. He's already posted two 10.5+ WAR seasons.
Here is the full 2017 MLB Awards timeline, because I expect a few Gold Gloves and Silver Sluggers for some of the Astros as well. I'm guess the Nov 17 thing is an official awards show. I don't really see the point though, if all the winners are already announced. Though, I find all the sports award shows and the increasing number of Hollywood/music award shows annoying and over the top. Nov. 6, 2017 - BBWAA Awards Finalists announced (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 7, 2017 - Rawlings Gold Glove Awards (ESPN, 9 p.m. ET) Nov. 9, 2017 - Louisville Silver Sluggers (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 10, 2017 - Wilson Defensive Players of the Year (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 13, 2017 - Jackie Robinson Rookies of the Year announced (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 14, 2017 - Managers of the Year announced (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 15, 2017 - Cy Young Awards announced (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 16, 2017 - Most Valuable Players announced (MLB Network, 6 p.m. ET) Nov. 17, 2017 - Esurance MLB Awards (MLB Network, 8 p.m. ET)
so when did voting end? if it was before the playoffs i'd be hard pressed to see altuve winning bc so much of the chatter was around judge. then the playoffs happened....
Altuve will win it and it won't be close. And all the voting was before the playoffs - Altuve was the far and away leader then too in the media.
Probably Molitor. No one has ever done the 100+ losses to playoffs in one year. But, it doesn't matter. Hinch was clearly manager of the year in the playoffs.
Oh...man...Houston can't compete with that. We have tons of wonderful cuisines and dishes, but fish soaked in lye ain't one of them.
I initially thought, No, it's going to be VERY close. After all, they're very close statistically. But as I thought about it more.... you know the often overlooked aspect of this is that Judge is a rookie and will almost certainly win Rookie of the Year unanimously. Now, the BBWAA doesn't vote on each award collectively - various factions vote on different awards. BUT.... every single MVP voter knows, beyond a doubt, that Judge is going to get RoY so, in a spread the wealth way, that may, in fact, pave the way for a sizable win for Altuve. Not that voting totals matter but...
The guy has over 50 career WAR (according to baseball reference) and he's only 26. That is absolutely INSANE!
I'm entirely going by the sports betting markets. 1-15 odds for Altuve is ridiculous. You'd have to bet $1000 to win ... $66. If there was any inkling of doubt that Altuve was going to win, I don't think you'd see odds anywhere close to that. So Buck - sadly, I didn't look at any AL Manager sports bet markets (the ones I look at closed a while back), so I have no idea on Hinch/Molitor!
