Yet another epic fail by the Obama administration to do ANYTHING. Why did they turn away forieign aid to suck the oil up. Why won't they let the barges into the water to suck the oil up?

This is far worse then the whole Katrina fiasco that GW had to deal with, this guy is either planned this whole thing out to not do anything or he is in way over his head and to stubborn to ask for help.

Against Gov. Jindal's Wishes, Crude-Sucking Barges Stopped by Coast Guard

Eight days ago, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal ordered barges to begin vacuuming crude oil out of his state's oil-soaked waters. Today, against the governor's wishes, those barges sat idle, even as more oil flowed toward the Louisiana shore.
"It's the most frustrating thing," the Republican governor said today in Buras, La. "Literally, yesterday morning we found out that they were halting all of these barges."

Watch "World News" for David Muir's report from Louisiana tonight.

Sixteen barges sat stationary today, although they were sucking up thousands of gallons of BP's oil as recently as Tuesday. Workers in hazmat suits and gas masks pumped the oil out of the Louisiana waters and into steel tanks. It was a homegrown idea that seemed to be effective at collecting the thick gunk.

"These barges work. You've seen them work. You've seen them suck oil out of the water," said Jindal.

Coast Guard Orders Barges to Stop
    So why stop now?

"The Coast Guard came and shut them down," Jindal said. "You got men on the barges in the oil, and they have been told by the Coast Guard, 'Cease and desist. Stop sucking up that oil.'"

A Coast Guard representative told ABC News today that it shares the same goal as the governor.

"We are all in this together. The enemy is the oil," said Coast Guard Lt. Cmdr. Dan Lauer.

But the Coast Guard ordered the stoppage because of reasons that Jindal found frustrating. The Coast Guard needed to confirm that there were fire extinguishers and life vests on board, and then it had trouble contacting the people who built the barges.

Louisiana Governor Couldn't Overrule Coast Guard
The governor said he didn't have the authority to overrule the Coast Guard's decision, though he said he tried to reach the White House to raise his concerns.

"They promised us they were going to get it done as quickly as possible," he said. But "every time you talk to someone different at the Coast Guard, you get a different answer."

After Jindal strenuously made his case, the barges finally got the go-ahead today to return to the Gulf and get back to work, after more than 24 hours of sitting idle.

Along Gulf Coast, Governors Ask, 'Who's In Charge?'
Fifty-nine days into the crisis, it still can be tough to figure out who is in charge in Louisiana, and the problem appears to be the same in other Gulf Coast states.

In Alabama today, Gov. Bob Riley said that he's had problems with the Coast Guard, too.

Riley, R-Ala., asked the Coast Guard to find ocean boom tall enough to handle strong waves and protect his shoreline.

The Coast Guard went all the way to Bahrain to find it, but when it came time to deploy it?

"It was picked up and moved to Louisiana," Riley said today.

The governor said the problem is there's still no single person giving a "yes" or "no." While the Gulf Coast governors have developed plans with the Coast Guard's command center in the Gulf, things begin to shift when other agencies start weighing in, like the Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

"It's like this huge committee down there," Riley said, "and every decision that we try to implement, any one person on that committee has absolute veto power."

Well in his own words he is in charge of the gulf oil spill....

And to emphasize a point....the press and libs brought up GW for every little nit picking thing during the "natural disaster" called Katrina...so where was your rational back then?

What on earth does Obama have to do with this? It is Coast Guard bureaucratic nonsense. They should have simply given the barges whatever safety equipment they were concerned about and sent them on their way. This is not the time for nit-picking. That's assuming the barges were doing some good and I'll take that on faith. The Prez has nothing to do with this.

Blaming this (tiny) controversy on Obama is a stretch. And seriously, comparing this to Katrina? Nice try, but that dog won't hunt.

Unadulterated bureaucratic bullsh!t. It knows no party. No color. No race. No creed. No religion.

I'm probably headed to Mobile here real soon. Cleanup should be fun.

There are ample opportunities for everyone to pitch in, physically or financially.

Only because Jindal had to sneak into the white house dressed like Zorro and defeat Obama to force him to allow the barges back at work.

Obama obviously would prefer that the oil leak is never stopped or cleaned up.

Really? Katrina was a natural disaster that nobody had any control of. The people in New Orleans, who were ordered to leave, had plenty of time to get out of town and they refused.

The oil spill is man made disaster that had numerous oversight failures by the federal government undre Obamas watch. And he has continually done absolutely nothing for the last two months to aid in the cleanup; as a matter of fact he has blocked any help from being offered.

Having said that, what is really annoying is the double standard that is imposed by the state run media. They are starting to come out now as in the latest speech review I posted but when Katrina happend it was a 24/7 onslaught on how Bush failed.....somehow the coverage here does not compare.

You know nothing of Katrina or the complaints people have with the Bush administration about Katrina. You have shown that in your post. That's odd.

Nobody complains about the Bush administration because a Hurricane hit. The complaints and the disaster come from the Levies failing, the fact that people were warned and did nothing, the fact that the Bush admnistration official in charge the whole effort had no experience in disaster relief, but was just a buddy of Bush's. Once it was clear that he was incompetent Bush didn't remove him, but said he was doing a heck of a job. The list of errors, lack of concern, and incompetence goes on.

Nobody is blaming Bush because a hurricane hit the area.

Come on... it's not like there has been a ship struck by lightning recently. Besides, what would be the big deal with a tiny little ignition source and a boatload of oil?

As for life vests and such, the government shouldn't tell these people what to do. They are out there doing work and they know best. If there's an explosion that sinks the ship, well, they made their choice. It's called freedom.

I'm sure if there was an accident and people drowned then Repubs everywhere would support the idea of freedom and pay homage to the notion it was their choice to die. I don't think anyone would attempt to blame Obama for such an outcome. Yep, Repubs would not try to score points if the Coast Guard took a few hours off from oil work to deal with a troubled vessel that didn't have life vests or fire extinguishers. It's all good.

    Hypocrites.

Seriously though, this is standard practice in incident response. The cardinal rule of any incident is that you don't make it worse. If a dozer shows up on an active fire, the dozer operator has his training and credentials checked and the dozer undergoes a safety inspection before it gets to the fireline. Same with engines, tankers, helicopters, crews, etc. Everyone has to check in and undergo an inspection of equipment and tools. No exceptions.

You also have to know exactly who is out there doing work and what their capability is and how much supervision they need and how self-sufficient they are so you can account for them if something goes wrong and schedule the work so there is no redundancy.

There is indeed a double standard. With Bush, he was criticized within days for not helping out more with the residents of New Orleans and deservedly so. Where's Kanye West to offer up his opinion on this matter?
