1.) Draft Yao Ming with the #1 pick 2.) Trade Mobley + Cato for Eddie Jones + #10 pick (C. Borchardt) 3.) Trade Griffin + #15 pick for Odom + #12 pick (A. Stoudmire) 4.) Trade Taylor + K.T. for Keon Clark (sign & trade) 5.) Re-sign our FAs: Williams, Torres, and maybe Willis & Brown? lineup would be: Ming, Borchardt, Collier Clark, Stoudmire, Morris Odom, Williams, Rice Jones, Torres Francis, Norris Clark, Odom, Jones aren't better than Taylor, Griffin, Mobley but they're better complement to Steve. Plus I think Borchardt and Stoudmire have much more potential than Cato and whoever we can get for #15 pick. Just ask yourself is that a better team than what we might have?: Ming, Cato, Collier Taylor, Thomas, Griffin Nachbar, Rice, Morris Mobley, Torres Francis, Norris this might be a high scoring team and get 45+ win but isn't a championship team. IMO a championship team must be a balanced team that has at least two high scoring stars (Steve, Ming, Jones), some team players (Odom, Jones), someone to play defense (Jones, Clark, Ming), and someone to rebound (Ming, Clark, Odom, Steve)
Eddie Jones makes more than twice what Cat makes, so that trade is impossible. Griffin is going to be a PF and the Clips already have Brand to play that position. Not to mention you could potentialy have 4 guys needing max extensions on this team, that's over 40 million invested in 4 players. Sorry, this is 5 steps to becoming the south west version of the Blazers, except Les can't afford to pay that kind of money.
The following steps should work to move us toward contender status: 1) get and stay healthy 2) draft Ming 3) stay healthy 4) stay healthy 5) stay healthy Disassembling our team simply delays the climbout, no matter the new cast of characters.
