Well, there goes GS. Spurs resting player with 3 remaining tough games @ homes. Looks like 41-0 is done. - TOR 4/2 - GS 4/10 - OKC 4/12
Isnt it ironic that the team that holds the current record of 40-1 at home is the team to take down Golden State? Celts 40-1 in the 85-86 season. Their lone loss at home? To a Clyde Drexler lead Blazers team.
With the long layoff between home games, I wouldn't be surprised if Pop decides to try to maintain perfection at home. He could easily rest his starters for the away games and implement a playoff mentality for the home games.
As I recall that game was a blowout too, an unusual off day for an awesome team. Funny thing about that particular Celtics group... they probably could have gotten well over 70 wins, but they just never thought about the all-time record at all. Different era.
Yes it is. That team finished with 67 wins and only lost 3 games on the way to their title. Two of those losses were to us. A squeaker and a blow out. Oh what could have been had sampson not fallen in the garden that year. We were up decent in the garden that year when ralph went down (regular season). That ghost never left him.
As much as I enjoyed seeing that Celtics team, let's not downplay the 70 wins to top the Lakers' 69. Celtics had 7 losses in December. And 11 losses in February before the all-star break...too many. They "never thought about it" is a weird statement. They never really had a chance. You could say GSW never really thought about it last year with their 67 wins, too. It's just very hard to win 70 games, much less "getting well over 70 wins" as you say. Give the 70 win teams their due. It's fine saying the Celtics of '86 could beat the GSW team, if you want to say that. But no real need to say the Celts could have won 72 games if they had just thought about it.
