Didn't the Dodgers do something close to that last year?

Is the Yankees pitching situation THAT desperate? Pettite is throwing in releif when he just pitched on Friday.

For a guy who has a balky elbow, and supposedly had back problems in ST, that's a mighty big risk... even if its his scheduled day to throw on the side.

Wang, Pavano, and Mussina are all on DL. Pettite is the only starter who can last for more than 5 innings these days, and Yankees' bull pen has pitched the most innings in the major league.

So at what point do they sacrafice a multi-billion dollar lineup, so they can get reliable starting pitchers? I guess its not their fault that they all started breaking down at once, but Pettite is likely the LEAST reliable on that staff, health-wise, and they're putting him out there in releif just two days after a start.

Its one thing if its the playoffs... but its freaking April. Pettite may be trying to do too much to justify going back to NY, and it will cost him (and his team) big-time if he tries to keep it up.

I think they are going to offer Clemens $20+ million and NOT PRORATE IT. They're going to be so incredibly desperate for pitching that they'll have to make an offer that no one can match...on top of giving him access to a private plane to come home in between starts.
