Diamondbacks are pitching Gallen tomorrow for sure now and he's absolutely filthy. This may be a rough one tomorrow.
A Cubs loss tonight will bring the DBacks magic # to only 1 game (Another Cub loss or DBack win). They will fight tomorrow to clinch so they can set up their postseason rotation, but if we can pull out the win and Chicago lose again then we may have a good shot at a sweep.
Now there are 16 ways and 11 of them end with the Astros in the playoffs. If I'm doing the math right, we have about a 69% chance of making the playoffs.
I wish they had brought Bielak up weeks ago and identified either Brown or Javier for rest but that didn't happen I'm afraid that ship has sailed. Unless he has been with the Astros and throwing, his season ended 9 days ago and has only had 2 starts and 10 innings (and 7 ER) in the past 3 weeks.
You can still bring up someone for the last day. Also, if they wanted him up, they could have him throw simulated innings to stay fresh just in case.
Actually to a certain degree you have to factor Toronto into it. There are 64 total sceneries. Division: 8 (12.5%) WC 2: 12 (18.75%) WC 3: 24 (37.5%) Any PO: 44 (68.75%) Out : 20 (31.25%)
Of course the rules allow it, I just don't see it happen based on what they have done or not done the first 177 days of the season. Not gonna suddenly change with 3 days left.
