Round 9, Pick 282: Scott Schrieber, OF, Nebraska First college senior of the draft class. 52 games, .369/.446/.692, 18 HR, 48 RBI, 62 R, 28 BB (4 HBP), 48 K, 4 SB (1 CS), 1.138 OPS
The Astros will close out day two of the MLB Draft with... Round 10, Pick 312: Chandler Taylor, RF, Alabama 47 games, .223/.373/.512, 13 HR, 35 RBI, 34 R, 38 BB (3 HBP), 54 K, 4 SB (2 CS), .885 OPS
The third and final day begins with Round 11 at 11 AM. As long as Luke Heimlich isn't one of the Astros' selections, I'm good.
You against giving guys 2nd chances? BTW, now he says he didn't do what he was accused of and wanted to spare his family the embarrassment of going to court. Oregon St was good with bringing him in and that's good enough for me. BTW, did you know the chances of him ever having another sex related crime is almost nil?
Pretty boring draft so far, but that's expected from a team that puts a lot of faith in college data who is also picking at the back of the draft.
I like how we got three guys who probably have a better chance than most mid round picks to make it with the pitchers we took. I think all three could be power relievers and those picks were put to good use. If we can develop bullpen talent from within, it saves us a lot of money by not having to spend $8-10M on a reliever
Also Scott Schreiber’s stance and swing look very similar to Tyler White. He could be a steal if he can learn to control the strike zone
Astros really should find Junior College High End Talent in lower rounds. The Slot Money is getting lower.
Given that they don’t really have any roster needs to fill out for their short season teams, I expect Houston to take some risks today. We might see them draft an unusually high number of guys who are injured, pitchers who have already reached their innings limit this year, and guys who need to learn a new position. I do hope early in this 3rd day they draft a couple of left-handed pitchers.
