5th Round: C Nathan Perry 6'2 200 17 years old! Bassett HS (VA) Big left handed power, soft hands behind the plate. Swing and miss in his game but lots of upside. I absolutely love how the Astros have gone young with almost every pick in this draft.
Don't draft a 17 year old with a blown out arm in the 2nd round. He wasn't that highly thought of before he got hurt. That said, of course the FO know infinitely more than I do.
I've learned to trust the FO. Correa, McCullers, Bregman, Phillips, and it goes on and on. They know how to draft.
Feels like an Elias draft rather than Luhnow. We aren't going for value, as much as ceiling. Makes sense given this may be the last draft we have to spend a decent amount of money.
Tyler Buffett, who got picked by the Astros last year but didn't sign, just got picked by the Reds in the 6th round
2013 draft is evidence there's room to question some picks. Not a single current major leaguer 5 years later.
Still 14 of the MLB top 100 draft prospects available, so if Houston is angling to have some extra money, there a guys still there.
Fair point, however it must be noted that players from that draft were included in trades for Gattis, Kazmir, and Giles.
