So, really he should hit 3rd? (I kid). Straw has upped his walks and reduced his Ks. If he can continue the high BA with solid walk rate and plus speed into AA, he'll start to generate more legit buzz.
Quietly, Colin Moran hit his 12th home run. His previous high was 10, last year in Fresno --- in over 2x the at bats. Interesting development since he was always a guy people thought should develop into more power. He's currently blocked, but he's outplayed AJ Reed thus far ( who hit his 11th).
Looks like 3 new prospects have made it stateside to the GCL from the DSL: Gerardo Bojorquez Humberto Castellanos Vicente Mota Not much info on any of those guys. Also, a few prospects missing from DSL rosters that I expect have also been promoted: Nestor Tejada Enmanuel Valdez Jose Bravo Jheyson Carabello Javier Navas Juan Corniel
Getting pretty fired up about Moran. Been waiting on this. Obviously he has yet to translate it to the bigs and may not get a chance here but I'd like to see us hold on to him. Starting to look closer to that Matt Carpenter comparison.
Last 30 games: .302/.354/.603 -- .957 OPS, 10 HR By comparison, Fisher's got a .344/.420/.648 split for a really nice 1.068 OPS with 9 HR. Pretty clearly you can see a different approach to put the ball in the air. He's had a career 1.35 GO/AO ratio. This year, he's sitting at 0.85.
Add in a 3rd hit. Average back up to .371! Cionel Perez went 5.1 innings - 7 hits, 0 walks, 6 Ks, 0 runs.
1B is Dexture McCall (non-prospect). DH is Spencer Johnson (non-prospect). LF is Pat Porter (non-prospect). Alvarez certainly isn't blocked. When they think he's ready they won't hesitate.
Deury Carrasco (17 year old SS) has had a really good start to his pro career with the DSL team. .346/.514/.975 with a 10:5 BB:K ratio. He was probably my favorite prospect in the '16 July 2nd international class.
Seriously... I don't question the Astros low level scouts (they are excellent)... but I cannot think of any reason why he hasn't been promoted.... he is hitting over 370 and his power is only increasing as the year goes on.
