Just thinking of the similarities between these teams. Both teams hired a proven defensive coordinator to get them over the hump, and the '93 Oilers went on to win the last 11 games of the regular season to finish the season 12-4.

Hopefully the Texans don't get axed in the 2nd round of the playoffs like the Oilers. :)

If the Texans make it to the second round of the playoffs, I will be completely satisfied with this season. Of course, I hope they go all the way.

good god, i hope the Texans are nothing like the Oilers. Oiler/Titan fans can have that history. Why would a Texan fan want to have any association with a franchise that did nothing but choke is beyond me.

Exactly. Make this comparison 7 years from now after this team has gone to the playoffs all those years, and just came off blowing the biggest lead in NFL football history the year before.

The only thing these two teams share in common is that they played in Houston.

That Oiler team was the only Oiler team that ever won the AFC Central.

I referenced that team probably 5 times yesterday during and after the game, saying our 2011 Texans are the best team we've had in Houston since 1993.

Win lose or draw, those Oiler teams were NEVER boring. For the first time in the history of the Texans franchise, this team is not boring.

Actually, we are kind of boring....in that the last 4 games have been over at halftime. But I'll take that kind of boring...

That defense was monstrous during that 11 game run. The front four dominated and it allowed Marcus Robertson to have an epic season from the FS slot.

They had won the division two years earlier when they lost to Denver. That was the first time they had ever won their division.

1993 was the first time they had ever had a bye.

Still can't believe moon never played in a conference championship game.

What a cluster; sorry - let me try that again:
I would like to point out, and I don't normally do this - but I made *countless* Buddy Ryan/'93 Oiler references this summer and was, of course, called a shill and PR rep for the team. The similiarities are eerie. Let's hope no one kills themselves and the season ends better. That KC playoff loss still causes sleepless nights.

Nope; '91 was the first division crown.

If you grew up in the luv ya blue era you wouldn't be saying that.

Speaking as a person that did grow up in that era, I can honestly say that neither the titans or the texans can claim that team. That team was the houston oilers, with the derek.

I am a titan fan because I live in Tennessee, but I am an oilers fan at heart.

Oilers have a better name, uniforms, and song. Warren Moon > Schaub

plus the music in 1993 was much better.

YOu do realize that the Luv ya Blue era was really when the team was only 11 or 12 years old (after the merger). They were still a baby (as was the rest of the NFL, post-merger).

Same thing goes for the Texans. If they don't have any real success till year 11 or 12, they'll be right on the same track... and will capture heart-strings in much the same fashion.

I get the point but that Oilers' team was not only had a great defense but teams actually feared playing them. While the Texans' defense is good and getting better, they have weaknesses, the Oilers 4-6 did not. It took a super human effort by Montana to beat them but in the end, they did lose.

no, it didn't. the oilers were a bunch of choke artists. i was a huge Oiler fan and heartbroken when they left. but for all the hate the Texans get for never doing anything, i'm amazed so many defend a franchise that was 35 years of fail.
