How is Julio Jones rated so high? I can see AJ Green, but I've seen Julio wrong terrible routes and drop balls on so many occasions. In other words, he is Jacoby Jones 2.0
Mayock releases his top five per position list January 22nd, 2011 5:34 pm CT Draft coverage is ramping up as we work our way past the East-West Shrine Game and toward the Senior Bowl and NFL scouting combine. Mike Mayock of NFL Network released his 'top five per position' list today, and since Mayock is not your dime a dozen talking head, it's worth a look. No one is right all of the time, but Mayock is the best in the business at what he does and when he's breaking down tape I'm usually paying attention. To read Mayock's complete list of top five prospects by position, click here . Mayock's list contains 60 players so what you're looking at, in general, is a list of first and second round talent. Although, there's wide variation in player rankings at this point in the game. If you're a Texans fan you're probably most interested in defense, so I've extracted the top five defensive linemen, linebackers, and defensive backs from Mayock's list below. Players denoted with an asterisk are underclassmen. Mayock said during the East-West Shrine Game broadcast that this year's defensive tackle crop is deep and talented and several may go in the first round. Keep in mind that some of these players are better suited for a 4-3 instead of Wade's 3-4, and we will be sorting through all that in the coming weeks. There will be a lot of movement on Top X lists in the coming weeks, but players like Nick Fairley, Marcell Dareus, Da'Quan Bowers and Patrick Peterson are likely long gone by the time the Texans pick at #11 overall. Defensive end: *1. Da'Quan Bowers, Clemson 2. Adrian Clayborn, Iowa 3. Aldon Smith, Missouri *4. J.J. Watt, Wisconsin *5. Robert Quinn, North Carolina Defensive tackle: *1. Nick Fairley, Auburn *2. Marcell Dareus, Alabama *3. Corey Liuget, Illinois *4. Jurrell Casey, Southern California 5. Stephen Paea, Oregon State Linebacker: 1. Von Miller, TexasA&M *2. Akeem Ayers, UCLA *3. Justin Houston, Georgia 4. Bruce Carter, North Carolina *5. Martez Wilson, Illinois Cornerback: *1. Patrick Peterson, LSU 2. Prince Amukamara, Nebraska *3. Brandon Harris, Miami (Fla.) *4. Aaron Williams, Texas Safety: *1. Rahim Moore, UCLA 2. Ahmad Black, Florida 3. Deunta Williams, North Carolina
Julio has a unique blend of size/speed/strength that the NFL loves. Big physical WRs create HUGE matchup problems. Route running is a concern but I don't think it'll hurt his stock much since that can be easily corrected by coaching, especially since he played in a run-heavy offense. I like AJ Green better as well but Julio is a legit Top 10 prospect IMO. Guys with that type of size, speed, and physicality don't come around too often. He also had very good production considering playing against SEC defenses and having 2 stud RBs carry a lot of the offense.
Give me Adrian Clayborn, Deonte Williams, Ryan Williams, and Tank for TCU and I would give em an A++....on top of that I'll even get season tickets...I'll be watchin from home as usual
I'm starting to jump on the Von Miller bandwagon but if we can draft FS Rahim Moore, UCLA in the 2nd round I will view this draft as a success no matter who we pick in the 1st round
I'd love to see Von playing for the Texans. I really just hope the Texans can get some experience in the defensive backfield through free agency or a trade somehow this offseason.
I got one. But it is funny to thumb through that thread and see just how wrong most prognostications are after one year .. picks, needs and players.
It's so early to start talking about 2011 draft prospects but hey I'll give it a shot. Last year I wanted the Texans to draft Tebow-he has such good character and an awesome background. This year I'd like the Texans to go after Cam Newton. I think he has a very good personality and a great work ethic that teamates can look up to and take after. Or better ye, trade down-give up our 1st and 2nd round picks as well as some late rounders, trade a few guys and go Patriots style with multiple 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounders in the drafts to come. We're not going anywhere with Kube and the Boob, so we may as well laden Cowher or Gruden with draft picks when they come aboard.
