I cannot disagree with you on this point. It has happened and will happen again, it is human nature and has happened since the first government was formed. I suspect you and I disagree on how often it happens but that is another debate.

I don't believe this to be true, I suspect it depends on the group and situation. I would bet than black Americans trusted the government less in the 1950's and 1960's and I would suspect that at other points in history trust was also very maginalized. I don't know that Southern whites trusted the government much right after the Civil War either.

I would agree with you that trust is a real issue. We are see a culmination of a lot of policies and technology clashing over the last 15 years.

Time changes things and what exactly a person is or is not, is changing..... but the trust issue will always exist on some level.

The image of a lynching doesn't sit well with me for obvious reasons.

I will be watching to see what happens with this investigation.

Are you really surprised that people reach that assumption given how recent lynchings occurred.

My grandmother and her children ( my father and his siblings) grew up in a time were lynchings were not uncommon. My father has told me he was told not to go to certain areas because these things could happen. That kind of mistrust doesn't just "go away" because of 40 year and some legislation.

There's many places that I wouldn't venture into to this day because I'm not the right race or ethnicity. The subtleties have changed but the danger is and attitude remain the same or have worsened. The more things change the more things stay the same. :(

    LOL....at the speculation.

I will say this.....I have close connection with someone who works with someone whose Husband is from the area and knew the deceased (yes....i know the dubious 3rd hand opinion....but it is true). The paraphrasing I heard..."if someone hung that guy, it was drug-related....and the hanging was done to hide this fact".
