I feel like a moron that I forgot this ... I was cleaning out the garage and dating some boxes that I was storing and when I put in "8-8-06" it dawned on me that ClutchFans is 10-years old today. I started the site on August 8, 1996. It was called "Clutch City '97", which was the sequel to a college goofball newsletter I did in Microsoft Publisher called "Clutch City '96". Technically I had the site up a few days before the 8th, but the first "articles" or thoughts that I wrote were both on August 8th: An article on why we should get Charles Barkley (we acquired him 2-3 weeks later) and a "Super Mario's World", which was me goofing as if I was Mario Elie. Those pretty much launched it. It got a link on "Marvin's Rockets Page" and that's how many of the early visitors found it. Over the years I've had a few people say they've been reading the site since 1995, but that's impossible: It started 10 years ago today.
clutch i cant believe its been 10 years already... i was thinking this anniversary was coming up. i've been readin the site since feb '97 when i was first learning what the internet was. this wasn't the first rockets site that i visited, but it was and always has been the best. keep up the good work, thanks!
it must feel great to start something like this from the ground up. I respect you and jeff for that matter for your entrepreneural spirits.
Welcome to the moron club ! It comes naturaly with age Thank you very much for all your time and effort and I am sure some fustration along the way. I was a lurker forall most two years before I registered. I get 90% of my rocket info from here. Thanks very MUCH.
heres to another 10 years of excellent basketball!!!!!! Btw are we going to do something for teh 1millionth post in the GARM
Best web site on the Internet, hands down! On the days when nothing seems like it can pull you through, ClutchFans does the job. I'm sure I speak for many when I say thank you and the other moderators for all your hard work.
Wow! Congrats Clutch! Honestly, maybe the best, most professional, comprehensive sports sites around, PERIOD! I even have some of my non-Rocket-fan friends with this site bookmarked on their browsers... Proud to be a member of this BBS, keep up the great work, keep onboard all insiders, and here's to another 10!!!
I was hoping that Archive.org would go back to 96, but the oldest records of the site are in the year 2000. http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.clutchcity.net http://web.archive.org/web/20000303234930/www.clutchcity.net/rockets.cfm The oldest article that is on the front page for March 2, 2000 was titled, "Backcourt heaven." Mentioning Moochie, Mobley, Shandon, and Francis as a dream back court... funny.
I don't tihnk I have to say this but, this site was a great idea. It gives me my Rockets "fix" daily because that's the kind of junkie I am. I'm sure that everyone here feels the same way. For all of us, I say: thanks for being our dealer.
Congrats and thank you so much for all you do! I first came to the site via "Save Our Rockets." Glad I did and still, depsite the Francis years and last season, glad we did.
Thanks Clutch, the Rockets are the only franchise in Houston that means anything at all. I dont want World Peace, I want another Rockets Championship.
