I know that there are music boards that are better suited for this question, but I figured the people around here would know the best local places to have instrument repair done. Basically, my guitar amp (silverface Fender) recently started acting up. Where would be the best place in town to have it repaired?? I haven't ever had an amp repaired so I'm clueless as to who does the best job. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
I've taken my amp to Rockin Robin on Shepherd near Richmond/59 I had a nice phat Peavy that they fixed up for me. (welcome back 'ol smilies!!) rH
Don't do Rockin' Robin - they cost too much. The best place above all is Allen's Speaker Reconing on 19th Street. There is an unreal amp guy in there named "Hoss" (not joking). He is the best amp man in town and he is not expensive. Hoss has been repairing amps for what seems like decades. Understand that Allen's is a big time crap hole. It looks as much like a junkyard as it does a repair shop but they guys in there are well-known around town and they've always done me right.
I believe one of the power tubes is about to blow up. One tube keeps overheating which makes the amp quieter and fuzzier. thanks for the advice Jeff. I will look them up and take the amp over there today.
