I remember Chris Davis being so bad with the Orioles a few years ago and feeling sorry for him. Just realized Abreus stats this year are worse than Davis
Also, at what point do the Astros not play him for his own good? Give him a couple days off. If he’s sore put him on the DL and call someone up. You can’t just keep running him out there for his own good.
I'm gonna say "back soreness" and put him on the DL... You can't just make up injuries (very bad idea), but he had a bad back last season and an injured bat so far. I think the MLB Office would let it slide.
Chas and Meyers need to start hitting too. Also...Meyers in CF should never be allowed to try and throw to 3rd or or home...he hits the cutoff every time, doesn't matter where. Marshmallow arm, it's sad to watch.
“Clamors for a roster overhaul or a series of call-ups from an infertile farm system aren’t rational. Neither Espada nor general manager Dana Brown have autonomy to cut ties with José Abreu, either.” https://theathletic.com/5440815/2024/04/24/astros-spiral-continues/
The front office is forcing Espada to play him. It’s more important to them than winning baseball games.
It's truly absurd we're still doing this.Abreu needs to be gone. I'm not one to panic, and I'm not calling for wholesale changes, but something has to be shaken up. I would think the position in which we've gotten absolutely zero from would be a nice place to start. 94 PA from 1B...1 RBI. One god damn RBI from one of the top offensive positions in the sport.
Dusty was a well liked, old black man, with decades of connections to the game around the league and coming off a WS title. He was completely bulletproof last season and he knew it. Espada isn't so lucky.
Since Abreu is under contract next year... can we package him with one of our trade picks just to get us under luxury tax territory...?
I think we might have a better chance if we roll a mannequin out there with a bat in its hands holding the bat out over the plate. Then, Abreu can push it to first on the slow roller. That way...Abreu isn't completely worthless.
