A couple things. Grimes is actually a better shooter than Mann right now. and on much higher volume. that's is significant. Grimes is probably one of the better ready now shooters in this draft. Definitely one of the top. he's worked extremely hard for years to get his shot to be at the level that it is, and really ramped up this year in preparation for the league Grimes goal was to go the league and be one and done. That didn't work out, not because of just bad workouts but more so of what was going on at Kansas and how he never fit and had a bad overall year there. He definitely needed a reset and UH was the perfect opportunity. He also struggled a bit in that adjustment period in his first season at UH. Everything from role to culture reset. There was definitely growing pains between him and Sampson and Co. But he definitely showed flashes of his talent and how hes a pretty good overall player. He completely turned it around this past year where everything just clicked. It was a huge work in progress. And grimes was never the PG at UH. It was always DJ/Sasser in the last 2 years
The shark has now been jumped. Quentin Grimes will never be a "head" in any type of monster. Unless we are positioning ourselves for a multi-year tank campaign and John Wallet is no longer on the squad.
Jaesean Tate + Aaron Holiday + A couple of seconds? Grimes isn't netting a 1st rounder in the current market.
Wouldn't Grimes just eat into Cam's minutes without offering Cam's upside? He probably makes our bench better this season, but I don't know if he's good enough to be worth it. Cam could already be better as soon as next year.
At the bare minimum, he'd help add some shooting to a team that doesn't have any outside of FVV and Cam. If you could get him for Tate and a second, you jump at it.
Yeah, it's a cheap way to help patch the 2 for this year...while adding a solid rotation player who gives us what we need.
Quentin would be starting over Green almost immediately. Very much an Ime guy. Could see him really thriving here. Could also trade Jalen Green + Tate + Landale + 2nd for Grimes/Hartenstein. Though I think the Rockets front office (not Ime) is more bullish on Green than Ime is. FVV/Grimes/DB/Jabari/Sengun is a ****ing hell of a shooting lineup. Amen/Cam/Tari/Green/Hartenstein is a great second unit as well.
I don't think the Knicks would trade Hartenstein, he's currently their starter. My question is if the Rockets would be willing to take back a bad contract like Evan Fournier to sweeten it for the Knicks. Swap let's say Dipo's contract and Tate for Fournier and Grimes. I don't know if that's a fair deal, but it seems like it could be viewed that way.
Maybe Tate, but are Green and Landale Tib's type of guys. They're also trying to win now. Is Jalen still consider a project? Unless Rose plans on flipping Green for more than what Stone can.
fair question. And with ensuing one - - are the Knixies hoping EF’s contract gets them into a big timer at the DL???
The question is who is going to offer a better deal than the poo-poo platter of Tate+Holiday+ Seconds? I think a contender steps in with a late 1st for Grimes. He has a skillset that can fit on many rosters.
Perhaps, but that's a really bad contract and it's not an expiring one. They'd have to add a lot to a deal to make up for including that one or accept an even worse contract back because I see it as a big negative.
Tate and/or 2nds this is a no brainer. Remove Tate who doesn't fit and we don't have roster space for more picks. If they want 1sts value, then you gotta get a swap, or another player of equal 1st round value like Precious who still has potential upside. You could also go for Fournier + buyout route if you want to open up $$$ for a big salary player or combine Dipo+Fournier+filler+picks for a massive splash player.
Jalen is worth more than Grimes. But Grimes is more of a Ime player than Jalen is. So I could see a third team being involved that would end up with Green in this scenario but sending Jalen for Grimes straight up is an overpay. Rockets would need to get a Center as well in the trade.
