So many players circulate through the Rockets franchise but none stand out more than the players the Rockets invest in with their draft picks so let's discuss the present and future of recent Rockets hopefuls. 2020 Rnd 2 - Pick 52 KENYON MARTIN JR Current Status: Active Current Team: Philadelphia 76ers Contract: 1 Year / $1.9 Million 2023-2024 NBA Games Played: 6 MPG: 3.0 PPG: 0.5 RPG: 0.5 AST: 0.2 2023-2024 G-League Games Played: 0 NBA LEVEL: BENCH SCRUB 2021 Rnd 1 - Pick 23 USMAN GARUBA Current Status: Active Current Team: Golden State Warriors Contract: 2-Way - $560k 2023-2024 NBA Games played: 0 2023-2024 G-League Games played: 5 MPG: 21.7 PPG: 11.2 RPG: 9.6 APG: 2.0 NBA LEVEL: WHO? 2021 Rnd 1 - Pick 24 JOSH CHRISTOPHER Current Status: Active Current Team: Utah Jazz Contract: 2-Way - $560k 2023-2024 NBA Games played: 0 2023-2024 G-League Games played: 5 MPG: 28.8 PPG: 19.2 RPG: 3.6 APG: 7.6 NBA LEVEL: WHO? 2022 Rnd 1 - Pick 29 TYTY WASHINGTON JR Current Status: Active Current Team: Milwaukee Bucks Contract: 2-Way - $560k 2023-2024 NBA Games played: 2 MPG: 3.0 PPG: 1.5 RPG: 0.5 APG: 0.0 2023-2024 G-League Games played: 4 MPG: 31.4 PPG: 13.0. Garuba, Ty Ty, and JC were always enormous scrubs…can’t believe people were crying over losing them…they all suck KJ was ok for us, but that’s about it…he doesn’t do anything particularly well except for dunking
Well one thing we can look forward to is the Brooklyn pick. If the draft were today it would be the 9th pick. Our top picks have worked out pretty damn well.
If Garuba turns about 10lbs of fat into muscle he might be able to stick as a third string PF/C for somebody. Wouldn't be surprised if TyTy and JC NBA careers are already effectively over.
That dude was crying on Gilbert's podcast because KJ is being tossed around now.. Kj got some bad advice from his #1 pick father.. The NBA is such a tough fleering experience especially for 2nd rounders. You gotta hang on to the chances you get. KJ fought his way into playing time all squandered because Silas is awful. Now we may never see him again. Martin sr was actually really happy that Ime was going to coach KJ before he got traded to the clippers
You know, it is funny I was just thinking about what happened to Sam Deckard. Someone should create a thread on all of Morey's draft picks and how their respective careers panned out. Which player had the most successful NBA career?
this is such a small way of thinking about the NBA. You always wanna get your "scrub" takes off Reeko. I saw you in those sengun threads. Your boy Silas derailed a whole line of young unrealized talent. These dudes, with a chance and a coach could have been something. The NBA is cruel in that way. If you aren't lucky or generationally talented enough to rise above your trash situation, you're out of the league. Silas incompetence had TyTy (a first round pick) playing behind Nix (undrafted) after dropping the laziest 50-ball in the g-league for goodness sake. Kentucky guards are notoriously good players in the NBA. Destiny looked bad (just like Sengun) because the defense and offense was so trash under silas. A summer before, Garuba was Ding up prime Bam Adebayo. The same people who picked Sengun predraft to break out also picked Destiny to be a player too. imagine Destiny as the backup instead of Jock under Ime's defensive scheme. Never forget yall wanted Tate traded, now this man is invaluable on the Rockets bench. If Tate was somewhere else, he would be at the end of the bench and would be in this thread too. Tate got lucky the situation changed for him.
Past coaching didn't do these guys any favors. It probably set them all back actually. It will take some time to undo the damage and bad habits they no doubt picked up along the way. My guess is that we haven't heard the last of some of these guys.
