I don’t see why Crane wouldn’t be willing to go into the tax this year as a one off. I would think Dana Brown would get a budget of the first tax level ($20M over) for the full year and it’s up to him when to use it.
My opinion is that Crane should be willing to go over the tax at least one season per championship. And to me it makes a lot of sense to open up the checkbook in 2024-2025 because not only is that possibly the end of the Altuve/Bregman/Verlander years, spending money might let them avoid trading prospects away so they might have a chance to let the farm recover from 7 years of selling and 2 years without a first round pick.
Off season needs. 1) Manager and any coaching changes required. 2) leverage reliever 3) starter/platoon starter who plays LF and/or CF and is at least 15% better than league average vs RHP. 4) another reliever 5) backup catcher. 6) bench player who can backup 1B and possibly 3B as well. I put these in order of importance and impact to team results next year. backup catcher may be a priority but using Cesar Salazar or Andrew Knapp really won't impact winning as much as 1-4, or maybe even 2-4.
What are everyone's opinions on the hitting coaches? I'd like to look at other options. Gonna take more than adjusting the batter's eye at home to me.
The hitting coaches don't stand at the plate and swing the bat. I have no idea how they are doing their job. Their job has little to do with results. It has to do with the hitters staying/ regaining their mechanics mostly.
Hitting coaches are a factor. Lots of Astros performing below previous standards. Dana is going to take that in to account 100%. May stick with Cintron, but maybe changes to coordinators etc to collab.
Haven’t watched anything sports-related since Game Seven. Thankfully, the national media barely covers baseball so I should be able to watch stuff again. Still sports-depressed. A mix of this song and gif:
You don't want to see the stuff I'm seeing on social media... arguing the Rangers won by being the only team without a PRIDE night
Everyone complains about hitting coaches if the entire team isn't batting .400. They helped Chas out alot this year and fixed Abreu, but over corrected on Pena as he has no power but doesn't embarrass himself on the sliders as much.
There are a lot of ignorant, neanderthal looking people up there. They literally think God was pulling for them. My guess is when we beat them next season they will all be screaming to cast Satan back to hell. Just another day in southern Oklahoma/East Texas.
I hate how much this last year seemed like a pointless season because of Dusty...from his comments it seems like he didn't want to put in any effort into managing...if that's the case he should have never came back in the first place...how can you say that the city of Houston is spoiled, that's like him saying I hate that people thought we should try and win another one this year, just shut up and let me collect a paycheck, we won last year, leave me alone...people don't think the Astros were punished because of the cheating scandal, Dusty was their punishment...
