Not depending on it, as this still has France, Arrighetti, Bielak, Blanco, Dubin, and Whitley available but yes I'm expecting him to be as healthy as anyone else next year.
Yes. I know the history and I would not be surprised if he has more serious injuries in the future. He may end up like Strassburg. But I fully expect 2024 to be a healthy one and then for him to get hurt again sometime during 2025. Maybe I'm delusional.
Just by adding Wyatt Langford and getting a full year of Evan Carter, the Rangers will improve more than we can. Jack Leiter will probably arrive next year too. If Dana Brown doesn’t have the spine to vouch for his ideas and decisions, then we need to fire him and find a competent GM who will keep Crane from being tempted to interfere. Crane can and will single-handedly close this window for good if he continues to be a problem.
Not so sure about that just yet. Adding Yainer full time, healthy Altuve, healthy Yordan, healthy Abreu.... Also, Jack Leiter has stunk in the minors.
So weird. Totally slept on it and I feel the same. We overachieved this year and Dusty leaving feels like the real accomplishment here. Now potentially they may extend their window of contention
About the same. He had a few shakey outings but pitched well overall in Sept which can be said about JV. in the playoffs JV wasn’t the problem. Framber, game 7 Javier / France and hitting with RISP was the problem.
Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter for Robbie Grossman seems comparable to Yainer for Maldy. They have other pieces to work with and more depth to trade. They’re going to be better if they can even slightly improve their bullpen. Leiter and Rocker may not start but could be used in the playoffs this year. We can’t compete with all of that if both teams play at similar levels to this year
Basically, everyone here agrees that our window just extended by not bringing Maldy and toothpick man back. 2024 will be another glorious year if we don’t have any major injury. And whoever can find a fix for Pena should get a nice pay raise.
Here's how I'm seeing it... if it were me... 2B Jose Altuve SS Tim Anderson 3B Alex Bregman DH Yordan Alvarez RF Kyle Tucker C Yainer Diaz 1B Jose Abreu CF Chas McCormick LF Lourdes Gurriel Bench Yuli Gurriel 1B/3B/2B Mauricio Dubon CF/2B/SS Jeremy Pena SS Jon Singleton 1B Martin Maldonado C Jake Meyers or Julks LF/RF Rotation Justin Verlander Framber Valdez Lance McCullers Cristian Javier Jose Urquidy Swing starters (AAA): France, Bielak, Garcia (for 2024 - regular spot) - stay stretched out in AAA. Bullpen Ryan Pressly Bryan Abreu Hunter Brown Rafael Montero Kendall Graveman Spencer Arrighetti or Forrest Whitley I think the 2 Gurriels and Anderson could be had for 25 million.... If Anderson fails (doesn't hit or too much defensive liability), I plug in Dubon or Pena in 9 spot and flip Tucker to 2 hole, everyone else moves up. Mitch Garver would be interesting as a pluck from Rangers. Spotrac has him getting 10 million per. Would add depth at catcher and DH. Also wouldn't mind a decent backup 1B to rest Abreu more or DH him. Josh Naylor via trade would be excellent to rotate LF, DH, and 1B. Not much defensively but to give Abreu regular rest should be ok.
I don't think there's currently a huge difference in ability between the two, but the Rangers would have had a much harder time making it through a seven game series without him. He and Eovaldi were really all they had in terms of quality SP in this series Had the Astros acquired Monty I doubt the Rangers would have in turn targeted JV due to the costs involved and thus they would have been left with someone like Lorenzen who bombed after the deadline. Would also have been nice having a frontline SP to pitch a few innings in game seven which apparently JV couldn't due to his age?
If Tim Anderson ever became an Astro I will stop my fandom after 44 years until he's gone. He is such a dick. Yuli is done. He was awful in 2022 and worse in 2023. I would love him in the organization just not as a player. Lourdes is a good hitter but he would not fix the issues of run production vs RHP and he is another very limited defender. This team woukd be significantly worse than 2023.
damn Tim Anderson hatred is like that? I'm not too familiar with him or his antics. why would you feel that way?
