Fire Lovie now so we have a head start on picking our next guy. Yet somehow we will still be the last team to hire a coach because we don't know what the f**k we're doing. The only real criteria for this franchise is being "a man of strong faith". They should have just let Culley keep eating s**t for another year. It doesn't matter who it is, they will suck because the Texans are the ones that hired them. Competent franchises will scoop up the good coaches first.
Why? NFL teams don't need a head start. Either the guy is going to come here or not. You can't interview HC candidates that currently coach in the league. The "faith" thing was Easterby. He is gone. Lovie had a **** roster to start. Bill Walsh wasn't going to win with this group.
Vince Lombardi couldn't win with this group of jobbers. This team has a talent problem, not a coaching problem. Whereas in my opinion the Rockets have a coaching problem, not a talent problem.
Stingley isn't going to develop into a top cover corner if he's hammered into a soft zone tampa 2 cornerback for his first 2 years in the league. The Texans are also giving away 180 rushing yards/game. In the last 30 years, the closest any team has been to that bad was 172 yds/g by the Colts in 2006. I expect an old school defensive coach to at least coach his scrubs to NOT be the worst of all time. This is as much a sham as a "quarterback whisperer" going through 14 QBs in 6 years.
If somehow Ryans wanted to coach here next year AND the Texans were interested (both being true seems unlikely), it would make sense that you would draft defense and also bring Jimmy G for a year (familiarity with Ryans, cap space) to help the young coach succeed right away.
Let’s just kick the can one more year on Lovie & Davis. Lovie got a 2-year deal, right? Draft Will Anderson and whoever Get another top pick in 2024.
The McNair's will never hire Demeco and I doubt he wants to work for the McNair's. The lawsuit makes Demeco ever becoming HC of the Texans a pipe dream.
Firing a HC 2 years in a row does not make for an attractive head coaching gig. That's a red flag. The Texans are still the worst HC opportunity in the NFL, so much so that guys would probably rather stay a coordinator an extra year than take the Texans HC job. It would take either 1) someone who's already friends with Caseiro or 2) someone that no team wants / a second tier HC candidate. You are dreaming if you think someone like DeMeco would want to coach us next year. He has many better opportunities, and even if he doesn't, it's better to wait another year than join this org.
This is why Welker or McCown make sense. I think they're the most realistic options outside of us keeping Lovie, which is what will ultimately happen.
If Lovie stays, I want him to hire a new OC and DC. Time for him to hang up his coordinator mindset, bc he just doesn't work.
These are conversations that will be had about this s*** franchise for the next 20 years. They will never get out of this hole as long as the current ownership remains. They can fire Lovie and then this time next year, y'all will be talking about who should replace whomever replaces Lovie. It'll go on and on and on.
As someone born and raised in Houston I’m pretty biased but I don’t think this this is the worst HC position in the league. Hell this might end up being the best of all the openings this off-season. Franchise LT, top 10 rb, potential shut down CB (if used correctly), maybe 2 top 10 draft picks and 5 picks in the top 70, not tied to the current qb situation, plenty of cap space, non meddling owner and presumably competent GM. Hopefully potential HC candidates see it this way too.
should have hired Eric B. when the chance was there. Watson would still be here. The sex scandal never happens....
What is the ownership doing to prevent winning? Hired Caserio. Finally fired Easterby. They are willing to spend money. What exactly is Cal doing to prevent winning? Now...not before.
Well, if Cal is the one hiring the coaches, that's one thing that should smack you right in the face.
