The shooting of 10 people by an 18 year old who released a racist manifesto in Buffalo, NY I think deserves it's own thread. This shooting combines some of the worst aspects of our society. Belief in the Great Replacement theory, willingness to travel miles to a largely minority neighborhood, the "look at me" attitude of social media, combined with easy access to firearms..
@Commodore @Os Trigonum @AroundTheWorld @bigtexx @generalthade_03 Do you guys wish to take this opportunity to condemn GRT?? GRT has been the consistent inspiration for multiple mass shooters in their manifestos. It would be productive if the right would take a stand now to reject the spread of GRT and call for your party leaders like Donald Trump and propagandists like Tucker Carlson to stop the spreading of this theory or else you will not vote for them or watch their programming.
It's the belief by white right wing extremists that the Jews are bringing in non-white immigrants to replace white people in America.
I think the belief system is more widespread than that? Probably only a small minority would blame it on “Jews”.
That's my understanding of it, and I'm not sure how wide spread amongst the far right - but I am sure it's more than a few kooks.
Much of what I've seen recently is around that Democrats want more immigration and "open borders" so they can get more voters. To be fair I don't think it is universally accepted on the Right. To use another term frequently put out it seems to be part of the penumbra of grievances that are driving much of the Right.
I've read that the Supreme Court stating "domestic supply of infants" is a replacement theory dog whistle. Is that a stretch or something worth considering?
I don't think it is meant to be, like, I don't think Alito or ACB actually believe in that theory but some people that believe in the replacement theory will interpret it as such anyway. I think you have two things radicalizing right wingers in this country. The fear of whites becoming a minority in this country is one of them and fear of Christianity becoming irrelevant is the other. For those that go further and further right, it's either one of these two fears (or both at the same time) motivating them. There is no issue bigger for them than their race or religion remaining in power.
So far no condemnations of GRT propagating from our right wing members. Another reminder to those members that GRT has been the self stated motive for multiple mass shooters and other terrorists going back to Timothy McVeigh who said himself he learned about GRT through the book The Turner Diaries. So I’ll ask again..do you guys condemn those who openly spread GRT and refuse to vote for them if they run for office??
I have never even heard of "GRT". It's obviously something crazy. Asking me to condemn it is quite obviously dumb and offensive in itself.
