thats fine when people say he's not ready and it will take time and people should be optimistic but then they add if he had better teammates he would have been ready to contribute for a contender
Rockets would absolutely be better than Cle! It’s not about swapping Mobley for Green. It’s about this: 1. Green’s minutes, which come with hugely negative rating, would be split between EGO, Jaygup, Wall (maybe?), Mathews, or Brooks. Huge improvement there. 2. Mobley would take PF minutes that were going to Theis (huge negative rating) or Tate (meh). Significant improvement. So we’d be improving two positions. Meanwhile Green will be bringing his toxic ratings to Cle to take minutes away from Sexton/Rubio/Garland/Okoro, all of whom have been very productive. Love can reasonably fill-in for Mobley in the line-up, with more minutes to JA/Lauri. So I don’t think the Mobley subtraction will be so devastating. The big issue for Cle is that you’re bringing a horrible guard to supplant productive players. (horrible at the moment, greenies. He’s just 19, quick, athletic, jumping, blah, blah, this is all fine, but not relevant) In other words, it is mostly about Green being very bad. Since both teams have decent guards, the team that has to play Green is at a huge disadvantage. Secondarily, Rockets are very thin at PF, so Mobley addition is an upgrade. Mobley subtraction from CLE is not that huge of a factor, IMO, as they can fill-in those minutes somewhat adequately.
Everyone would be better if they had better teammates. Is that really shocking? There are 0 top rookies right now contributing to a contender, the Cavs are 5th in the East and yes Mobley does have a better supporting cast and strategy than he would on the Pistons, Rockets, Magic. He would look even better on the Raptors. Barnes is playing with championship calibre role players, he slid into Kawhi's star spot, how much more perfect can that get for a player? I don't see who is saying Green would be ready to contribute heavily to an NBA contender, but if there's such a person they're out of their mind. Despite all my optimism, it's obvious Green is not there yet.
LOL at the notion THIS team minus Green plus Mobley would be any better than it is AND that Mobley would have the same opportunity to flourish. What is much more satisfying is observing the dysfunctional fan jump between half hearted support posts and bust thoughts all within a few games, Truly fascinating!
Mobley is great - but he needs passes (and he gets great passes). You don't feed him, iso him and let him create on his own. This is not a knock on him. Most players his size do and what he is doing at his age and after just a couple months in the league is astonishing. But on this team, his ppg would be way down. We don't have great and willing passers on this team. Mobley would get plenty of rebounds and second chance opportunities, but he wouldn't be the Cavs Mobley. Green on the Cavs? would be much better than Green on the Rockets. Why? Because they have players, that create shots for others. Here he is standing in the corner or driving by his man, often without a pick. With a guy like Rubio he would get a lot more open shots. He would still suck on defense and his basketball awareness would still be lacking, but he would be more efficient and have a higher PPG.
The Rockets would be better this year with Mobley rather than Green. Turns out he was more NBA ready. They would not be better than Cleveland. Cleveland has benefitted from the emergence of Allen, Garland, Okoro, and a decent re-boot of Love and Rubio. Mobley is playing great and is contributing at a high level and is clearly leading as ROY, but he is not the only reason that Cleveland is much improved. KPJ and Green are much more a work in progress in our backcourt than the Cleveland backcourt even without Rubio and Sexton.
Who would have been the PG tandem of Garland and Rubio spoon feeding him?? Mobley is a support player - he would have been asked to be a primary option here and he isnt that YET. I say Cade Cunningham will win the ROY, but that also doesnt mean I think less of Mobley. He's in a great situation for himself. That team would have done well with or without him with players like Garland, Allen, Maarkanen, Sexton, Rubio. That team was low key well put together. Mobley just had to come in and play his role and he has done it very well. Not to create excuses, but Mobley/Green situation is nowhere near the same, but it is what it is - Green needs to snap out of his funk and try and remain consistent. I think he's hitting a wall having only played 16 competitive games last year, but again no excuses its on him. He is uber skilled and is not an instant gratification type of player he was always going to be a project.
Your takes are too sensible for Clutchfans these days. I ask that you kindly leave as this is only a space for "Green is worse Corey Brewer" or "Green is the next Kobe" takes.
If Mobley was in Houston and Green was in Cleveland the talk would be about how lucky "support player" Mobley was to go to a team with John Wall and KPJ "feeding him" and how terrible it is for Green to be stuck in Cleveland with Rubio and Garland taking all of his touches. The excuses from delusional Jalen Green fans would exist no matter what team he went to. He's flat out terrible right now and his fanbois simply can't accept that reality, they need to blame it on everyone else.
If you take Mobley off of Cleveland and shackle them with Green, they wouldn't be anywhere near as good as they have been this season. The downgrade from Mobley to Love and from literally any player in the league to Green would absolutely tank the defense that has been the primary reason why Cleveland has won games this season.
You must be on crack to think Rockets would be better than Cleveland with Mobley. Green would be benched behind Garland and Rubio in Cleveland so it's not even relevant to the discussion. Mobley would start the season on the bench behind Theis and Wood for a while before they smarten up. Mobley's rebounding numbers would probably go up because Wood sucks at rebounding, but his scoring would go way down with KPJ struggling to set up anyone on offense. It was a absolute **** show here with the twin towers experiment, KPJ turning the ball over 10 times a game to begin the season. How in hell would Mobley fit in the mess. His efficiency would go down too because instead of getting easy buckets from Garland and Rubio, he would be forced to create his own in this offense. He would still be a beast on defense, we would have still lost many games because of general incompetency everywhere else.
Mobley actually plays on the defensive end and his big attribute in college that I thought would carry over to the NBA was him being able to guard anyone and playing defense without fouling
It is pretty clear that Mobley was the pick, and that Stone went for the shiny object in the stream. Now we have to HOPE a player develops into something great, or that Stone is fired and someone that is competent at recognizing top talent can take his place. DD
It's not even close. Mobley is already a all NBA level defender. Green is very behind in terms of NBA ready skills and body
The continued pining for a player that we didn't pick and didn't even want to be here is pretty hilarious to me. Green is our guy whether or not you agreed with the pick and if one is a real ROCKETS fan, they will support him and root for his progress.
You are kidding right? Adding a versatile 7' efficient player on both ends, and removing an inefficient player from the rotation and putting in a more efficient one - would not make us better? Didn't you notice the 7 game winning streak immediately after Green left the rotation? That is not happenstance......no one is saying he is a bust, just that he is far from a good NBA player right now and Mobley is a good NBA player....that alone would make us better. Not to mention Mobley helps clean up the rim protection - ah...man, this is pissing me off again.....damnit....can't believe we passed on Mobley. DD
