I think this will wrap up in the next 60 days. My current expectation is that Houston will lose its first 2-3 draft picks in 2021 and be fined $5-10M. Cora will likely receive a heavy suspension, with Hinch receiving a lesser suspension. Crane, Luhnow, and the players will otherwise be mostly spared.
This is good... very good. Very curious as to what Cora told MLB when he was first talked to... let the dominoes fall
This is so so so rich. Now one of baseball’s stories franchises, oft-beloved by the National media, is involved in this mess. Manfred looks like even more of a clown now for saying that he didn’t believe the sign-stealing issue went beyond the Astros. The more teams that get sucked into this the better for the Astros.
If the BoSox were doing this in 2018 wouldn't this be far more egregious than what the Astros (allegedly) did in 2017 since this would be AFTER: 1) already getting busted and fined using apple watches in 2017, and 2) the resultant September 2017 mandate that made it crystal clear electronic sign stealing was prohibited??
Interesting that article does not mention draft picks as potential discipline. Looks like it will be a hefty fine for Crane and lengthy suspensions for Luhnow, Hinch, and Cora.
Gotta think that they wouldn’t go as hard on Stros if that means they’d have to go after their untouchables
One thing I’m confident of is that Luhnow is cold blooded and he will not stand for being a fall guy if he knows other larger market teams did equivalent deeds. If NY or Boston cheated, the hammer will come down on them too. But I expect Luhnow will get off relatively light. My guess is Cora and possibly some lower level front office guys bear the brunt of it.
