Just announced on MLB network, Trout wins MVP. He had 17 1st place votes, 13 2nd's. Bregman had 13 1st's, and 17 2nd's.
Rename it "BPB" and then Trout can continue to win it every year while winning 60 games. https://bbwaa.com/19-al-mvp/ https://bbwaa.com/19-al-mvp-ballots/ 2. Bregman 7. Springer 10. Cole 11. Verlander
No issue with this. Bergman had a great year (after a slow start, when he tried to do too much with so many Astros injured), but no shame in losing to Trout, especially with *that* season.
It’s pretty consistent in baseball... unlike the NBA which the narrative changes based on the media. Trout was a lock till he got injured, regardless of his teams performance. The injury did open the door some for Bregman, and the closer vote reflects that.
Bregs plays everyday carries the team through injury and his team wins 107 games. Trout play great on a bad team and misses a month due to injury and still wins the MVP. SMH
It's interesting to me how team record doesn't matter for anything baseball when it comes to MVP, but NFL and NBA it does. I get it, baseball is the least "team" sport of those three team sports. There is a lot an individual player can't control. It's still odd. Or maybe it's just frustrating how every league defines MVP differently, and sometimes (*cough* NBA *cough*) even differently from season to season. But at least it's nice to see it was close.
Bregman stranded 738 runners in the playoffs though. Folks soured on him when he gloated after the 2 times he actually did something. He, like the entire lineup, was simply awful. Yes i know its a regular season award.
It’s consistent. One player can only do so much in baseball, and still fails about 60-70% of the time. In basketball, one player changes everything.
Record isn’t that important or possibly not important at all in these things. DeGrom winning back to back cy young’s is further evidence of that.
They really should announce these at the end of the regular season. If Cole goes anywhere, I hope it's to the Angels, so they can have players win Cy Young, MVP, and also maybe reach .500.
Because in baseball, a 3rd baseman that's worth 6 war will ALWAYS be better then a 3rd baseman that's worth 5 war. There's no teamwork or anything, it's not like basketball or football where a player makes others better.
MVP is now a farce in two major sports. Not surprised but disappointed in the vote. Not sure how a guy on a losing team that didn’t make the playoffs gets most valuable player. How is he valuable? It’s almost like the voters said ‘Houston is getting two of three of the big awards, might as well throw poor old Trout a bone.’
