Someone should photoshop "Tax Savings" on the back of the rockets jersey where the name should be. I think that image would get reposted a lot around here this year.
I really don't see how anyone can reasonably think we will pay the tax this year? It simply isn't happening. We flushed a stack of assets last season to get under the tax line. Those assets we flushed could have instead been parlayed into halfway decent players, who may have fit a need on our team, or at least been useable as assets going forward. The fact that we came back with a big donut is clear evidence we aren't a tax team. There is no way we pay tax
We should have a sticky recap of those. It was like 2 first round draft picks, a large expiring contract, and a half MLE? I can't remember.
Its even crazier when u realize the Warrior's owner could've easily went cheap and ducked under the tax this year, with Kevin Durant's 35+ million contract off the books, thus avoiding the repeater tax. Which unlike Tilman & the Rockets last year, the repeater tax isn't some boogie-man 4 years in the future but THIS or NEXT year for them. Instead, despite having the ready excuse of Klay's injury & Durant leaving, they CHOSE to add a max contract for Russell at the cost of1st round draft picks, spend 5+ million on Looney and seek to spend nearly every single dollar they can, even though they are hard capped! Also they bought a couple picks this past draft!
Very true, however lets not forget the amount he would lose for being a taxed team, ie... the tax revenue redistributed to non-tax paying teams. Which was what 3+ million last year?
I cant agree more. Warriors have 100 reasons to save money this season, but they are not. Because they are real contender. Rockets are the opposite.
We are now at the point where the only ways we end up a tax team for the upcoming season are: A) We re-sign Shumpert using bird rights OR B) We sign and trade Shumpert somewhere else
I just don't think getting yourself hard capped for a replacement level player is a smart move. Even if it doesn't materialize, I prefer flexibility over a player like JaMychal Green. A more e like that doesn't win you any more games than flexibility does.
The one year you should go all in, especially after making that trade, and this fraud refuses to spend money out his own pocket when the league is wide open. Disgraceful
