Well looks like I am suddenly interested in the XFL. Will root for and follow any Houston sports franchise till I die.
I think playing at BBVA Compass Stadium is a mistake though. I would imagine the XFL season would be during the NFL off-season which puts it at a really hot and potentially rainy part of the year. I know they probably feel like they can't fill Reliant and wouldn't want to pay the much higher costs associated with using that venue, but I think there will be a lot of people that simply don't want to sit out in the heat to watch an XFL game and you'll probably get multiple games rained out. I just think it's a bit short sighted.
I tell people all the time if Houston had a chess team I would root for them. I can’t fathom being born and raised in a city and rooting for another team.
They should start the XFL season exactly 3 weeks after the super bowl is finished. This gives people 2 weeks to talk about the game and the commercials and then the third week of people realizing they dont have football to watch anymore. The weather would still be nice and people would fiend for some type of football. Dont know if plausible, just my 2 cents. I laughed.
That Chronicle article says they begin play February 2020. Suspect it will be a 10-12 game regular season February-April; good time for outdoor football in Houston.
My mom who lives in Atascocita tells me if I don’t visit for her at least visit how great 1960 still is
I kid but tbh I didn’t have a great experience at BBVA stadium , traffic driving back was a nightmare and it wasn’t crazy hot when we saw a soccer game - not sure this is long term feasible
Don’t be surprised if most of the cheerleaders are former strippers Pretty cool we’re getting a franchise. I’ll be checking it out for sure.
Plus NFL football in Houston has had a closed roof for like 4 straight years, so football fans aren't exactly used to braving the elements while they watch in this city. It will be interesting to see how people react.
