Banning Huawei, Tiktok, etc. is largely US propaganda that has brainwashed the American people and part of the overall evil Chicom boogeyman rhetoric. Are Huawei and Tiktok completely innocent? Nope. But they aren't doing anything that Google and Facebook aren't doing. After months, if not years of the US govt's war on Huawei and Tiktok, there has no never been any substantial proof that they have backdoors or are spying on Americans to harvest their deepest, darkest secrets to overthrow our country.

The war on Huawei is because they beat Qualcomm/Xilinx to the punch on 5G and the war on Tiktok is because they invented a successful short-form video social media platform and beat Facebook/Google on that front. I wouldn't be surprised if the US govt was also throwing a bone to Apple because Huawei was starting to eat into their smartphone market share as well. If we can't beat 'em, ban 'em and let domestic clones take their market share. That's what India is doing, and that's what we're doing. Forget about free market capitalism, we're engaging in the very protectionist measures that we accuse China and other countries of doing.

But what about Google and Facebook being banned in China you say? Facebook and Google are able to operate in China if they comply with local laws, which require data to be controlled by the government instead of private corporations. Skype and LinkedIn for example, work in China, because they opted to comply with local laws. Whether you believe this law is fair or not is a separate debate but the fact is that Facebook and Google opted out of operating in China. Whereas for Huawei or Tiktok, they aren't given any options to make changes or compromises that will allow the US or Indian governments to be comfortable with letting them operate because the whole witch hunt is built for propaganda.

Think about it, if Tiktok was a nefarious spying app, do you really think Apple, the most valuable company in the world, with it's infinite corporate and legal resources, would continue allowing Tiktok to be one of their top apps worldwide?

They have stakes in reddit, blizzard, epic, grinding gear etc as well, it's not just chinese games. In a way, WeChat is what fb wants WhatsApp to become. Their cloud biz is growing too, winning contracts in south Korea. (Long tencent 0700.hk)
