    There are few who can rival Josh Smith for inconsistency or an ability to either ignore or forget the coach on the bench. If we want to relive Smith driving everyone crazy by having some great moments separated by long periods of frustrating play, then by all means, sign the guy. Me? I have trouble imagining Morey subjecting MDA and everyone else to Josh's maddening behavior on the court. I just don't buy it.

    I believe MDA is consulted before signings; if he ain't ok then JSmoove caint play.

    I would hope that Morey would get some input from MDA before he signs someone, but he has no obligation to do so as GM. They may have an informal agreement to consult, of course, but Daryl makes the decisions. As for "if he ain't OK, he can't play," well - when was the last time Josh was OK? He's had better than OK moments in games while he was with us, and he had some brilliant stretches. I was certainly excited as hell when he did, but then he could drive you mad for games before doing it again. Did I mention that he's a maddening free throw shooter? Haven't we suffered enough in that department already? I would pass, even if he got himself in shape. I doubt that he has.

    If it were my call it would be a good no-call. I'm just adding 2+ 2 wondering if my arithmetic reconciles w/any guessing games about Melo's inevitable, if not imminent, arrival @TheToyShop (I am unique in that I am guessing what the ultimate deal will look like as no one else is doing this but me me me).

    Pros:
    * Can take lobs from Harden/CP (?)
    * Good defensive instincts
    * Good on-ball defense
    * Decent rebounding
    * Hungry for NBA opportunity
    * Friendship with Harden
    * Corner 3 point "threat"
    * Bargain bin cheap

    Cons:
    * Inconsistency
    * Low on-court IQ
    * Poor shot selection
    * Poor shooter overall
    * Getting older / declining athleticism (?)

    In conclusion:
    We sign him, stick him at the end of the bench and he becomes the Warriors Javale McGee on the Rockets.

    The looks that Paul would give Smith on the court would be priceless.

    I liked his success with our Rockets, but his NBA days are over.

    was Javale Mcgee at the "end of the bench" during the GSW's championship run in the playoffs?

    No, but fans here are really sour on Josh Smith so I'm trying to sell him as an end-of-bench idea. Besides, whose minutes does he take? Luc? Tarik? I don't see it. I'm trusting Morey either way on this one.

    I mean... if Smoove doesn't go crazy and get us to game 7 (and ultimately knock out the Clippers)... I wonder if Chris Paul is a Rocket. One of his knocks has been not making it to the WCF, and that was as close as they come.

    The fact that you don't have his passing on the list of pros first and foremost (or at all) invalidates this list. That's his best skill, especially as a big.
