The final member of the Houston Astros' 2018 draft class is...

Round 40, Pick 1212: Nathan Duarte, SS, Lancaster High School, Lancaster, California

    Draft pick tracker coming soon.

The last 6 picks are HSers who are likely long shot signs:
This may project that the Astros will have a smaller than normal incoming Class of 2018.

Likewise, the Astros may not be that active in the Undrafted Free Agent market, due to losing 2 of their farm teams.

I doubt any of the HS draftees except Schroeder sign. Only chance for an overslot signee would be Lyle Lin. But you never know.

For now my guess is that 28-32 sign, plus another 2-3 UDFA. With the addition of these 40, there are 100 players assigned to EST waiting for the GCL and Low A seasons to start.

The slot for round #11-#40 is $100,000 (or maybe that has recently increased?). I don't see the Astros offering Lin (Pick #882) more than that. We will see.

Astros wanted to make it fun by drafting Bregman and Correas brother but chances are you won’t see them.

I think the slot and trying to go over slot value only applies to the first ten rounds.

Rounds 3-32 are all college guys, I’d expect most to be easy signs..A few will opt to return to school for another season or two. Will be interesting to see if Correa and Bregman’s younger bros pass on college

Any player drafted after the 10th round who receives a bonus over $125k counts against the bonus pool allocated to the 1st 10 rounds. So if Houston is able to get some underslot signings for their 1st 10 round picks, they would be able to offer an overslot bonus to a later pick. Lin was not that highly touted of a prospect, so my (total) guess is that if Houston can scrounge up another 200K, they could get him. That'd be 5th round money.

Houston has done this in the past. Nick Tanielu (2014 14th rd), Patrick Sandoval (2015 11th rd), and Andres Santana (2017 29th rd) all received overslot bonuses.

Clemens has been going apesh!t. 10 HR in his last 15 games, big clutch hits in the regional and now the super regional. He's made some solid plays at 2B too, if he can show the range to stay there in the pros he'll be a serious prospect.
