There might be a real chance they miss the game.

The service won't end at 2PM. Unless they leave early. Seems like the service is gonna be until 2:30PM or heck even 3PM. It takes 30 minutes to just file out of the Staples Center and get inside of a vehicle. What's the closest airport? If they are driving I doubt they even get into a plane until 4PM, perhaps at the earliest. There is a real chance that they miss the 1st quarter IMO.

And it’s not like they just change clothes and go play. They have to stretch and warm up.

I don't think Harden will speak. They're wrapping it up with Alisha Keys

Hey if they have to push too fast, id rather they not play.

despite it being kinda disappointing if Harden and WB miss the game, its a good reminder that there are bigger things in life than just playing the game. You would excuse them to go to a family member's funeral, this seems similar. James and Russ are competitors , they arent gonna miss a game without good reason.

Also i could make a joke that instead of driving to the airport they could just take a private helicopter, but that seems in bad taste.

closest could be burbank but traffic could be really bad trying to get to it. Van Nuys would the the next closest that does a ton of private flights in and out. LAX is probably the same distance as Burbank, but again it really depends on how they will navigate traffic over to the airport. I really doubt they'll hop on a chopper given the circumstances or get a police escort to the airports.

There is going to be a lot of crazy traffic in the area when the event ends and a lot of celebs too that need police escorts etc.

I think they will have to either leave early or miss the first half.

I've gotta say.....I know we already have a thread for how much of a warrior PJ Tucker is, but for him to be mourning his own loss, play against Utah, come out and pay his respects to the 9 victims of the crash, then get back on a plane to play tonight, all while giving 120% on the court.....this man is a special human being.

again its the logistics of it - unless they leave early which is a possibility but if this memorial ends at 3pm Central time - its a 3 hour flight from LA to Houston. Thats again if they are in the air by 3pm Central because they still would need to navigate out of downtown LA and to the airport which can easily take more than an hour in itself.

I am not trying to be insensitive but the Rockets already dropped their "kobe" game to the Nuggets which may loom large in the playoff standings - to lose one to the Knicks at home because of this would be also unfortunate.

FWIW I dont blame Westbrook, Harden and Tucker if they ended up missing the game because of attending the memorial. Some things are more important than basketball. As a fan though who has no real ties to Kobe/Lakers (and I grew up in LA lived in LA throughout Kobe's entire career except his final season) it would kind of suck knowing the Rockets lost 2 games in a tight race from crazy circumstances - something that would probably fall under "act of God" when it comes to insurance policies.

Oh that might explain it, I was wondering why we got no shots of them. The probably have a very strict time schedule.
