Will I get a job before I starve to death or have to resort to stealing stuff again?

Here's the deal, I'm starting a drewdogesque thread, but I really just need some help. Does anybody know of any businesses in Austin that would hire a college student with virtually no experience in any field other than automobile maintenance? I can't work before noon from Monday through Friday, and I have a felonious background record. If you have any suggestions or recommendations, I would greatly appreciate them.

I have one piece of advice for you, and I cant emphasize it enough:

Dont look for a job in Austin...... they are few and far between!

Use your handle and look in Dallas or Houston.

Are you still in college now?

Are you saying you prefer to not work as an auto mechanic? I ask this because I know a number of mechanics with your "limitations" who always find work. Hell, compared to them, you're over-qualified.

    DT,

You mentioned having mechanic experience. Are you I-Car or ASE Certified? If so, I might be able help out.

I'm not certified in anything other than automotive AC (IMACA). All of my experience in that field has come from apprentice/helper type work. Right now, I am willing to do anything that would get me more than minimum wage, but one of my other complications is that I cannot legally leave Austin. Does anybody know of any restaurants or anything that are hiring?

    Drewdog,
I never asked you how you got your job in Houston. Did you post your resume online or something else?

    Just lookin' for a tip.

Join the army as a vehicle mechanic. You'll get excellent training and experience, and if you end up not liking it, you can always leave after your 2-3 year commitment.

    Try here:

    http://www.usajobs.opm.gov/a.htm

Check out Trades and Labor and the student programs. May take a few weeks to get into a job, but the Feds won't hold your past against you (at least in the occupation you're seeking).
