Both the American Sports Model and the European Sports Model are distinctly capitalist enterprises (community-owned Green Bay Packers excluded), but organized differently. American sports are basically run as a franchise companies, where the parent company sets the rules of competition. The European sports teams are run more independently, where the leagues act as an industry-organization set up to benefit the team owners.

Each has it's own benefits, but I think that history has proven the European model more profitable, and more open to start-ups.

Well, for one thing, the different sports organizations are privately run organizations that can pretty much run in whatever way they feel makes it best for them. There is no outside influence demanding they run the way they do.

Again with the socialism? This is not socialism either; he's talking about the effects of a monopoly.

    Otherwise, good article.
