Every time I look at the standings I notice we are behind Utah, even though we have a better winning percentage then them.

Can somebody explain to me why?

Several other threads dealing with this. Jazz lead their division and are therefore guaranteed a top 4 seed. Though if they met the Rockets in the play-offs, the Rockets would have homecourt.

Explain this to me then....what's the point of them being a 4 seed if we get home court advantage?

playoff seedings and being placed in which bracket

    1/8 in same bracket 4/5

    2/7 in same bracket 3/6

they can technically have the 8th best record amongst the playoff teams but if they win their division, they avoid a first round matchup with the top 3 teams

but how come NO is 3rd and it is in the same division as SAS who is ranked first? I just do not understand that one.

Because the top 4 seeded teams are the three division leaders + the non-division leader with the best record in the conference.

The Rox should've played the McNuggets in the 1st round that year. Instead we got the 58-win Mavs. Total BS. :(

That's also why when we beat NO tonight, we will be tied with them. However, we will own the tie breaker with them, so we will jump from #5 to #3 and they will fall from #3 to #5 in the West playoff seedings. :D
