I understand that he is very loyal to his vets, but come on now. When we are getting routed usually Coach does a good job of going to the bench and getting some much needed fire power. But as soon as we are back in the game he pulls everyone that helps us out of the game. I'm not just basing this on the game last night against Dallas, it's just something I've noticed throughout the first few games we've played early in the season. Everytime we bring AB, Wafer, Landry etc. into the game they give instant offense and energy. When we think we are finally back in it he takes out the hot players and puts in Rafer or hobbled TMac and maybe even Chuck for defense, if he's not already on the floor. I just want to see what yall's view on this would be. Yes we like most of our vet's but can we give the reserves a little more love for what they are bringing off the bench. And what's going on with Brent? I think he's still a sperm by heart or something. He hasn't brought anything of what we expected since he signed. Just my thoughts man. Had to repost cause ya boys are all up on deez for not putting it on the right forum. MY BAD DAWG!!!
I have never like Adelman's substitution judgment based on game situation ever since dating back to the Kings' era and i was huge Kings fan back then. I never doubt about his coaching ability but when it comes to substitution according to game situation...he failed!! Jeff Van Gundy is very good at substitution and knows what or who to play to maintain lead or keep up with the momentum. During the Lakers game, we were up by as many as 16pts...and he continue to rest the 3 starters until we were only up by 7pts. No reason for him to rest the starters than long other than waiting for the Lakers to get back into the game which is what Lakers did and give them life and momentum and never look back.
The bench didn't do much better than the starters. Between Carl, Wafer and Brent, they shot a combined 2-12. Brooks dropped 15 but was 4-10 from the floor. Aside from Brooks, nobody from the bench really gave us anything.
But this isn't just last night it's most games we have played so far and a lot of last year's. Brent is just sucking and Landry had an off night, the game from the Rox side was pretty ugly. Trust me I had a first hand view, making the mistake of paying to watch them stink it up. My thing is that if you leave the bench in for a little longer maybe they can start to warm up and catch a rythm, but RA doesn't give them enough time to see if they do, he sits em right back down.
I think you guys are forgetting JVG's reputation of almost ALWAYS playing his vets over the rookies. Guys like Novak and Spanoulis never got playing time when he was here. At least Adelman is willing to take a chance on younger guys. This year may not be so evident. But last year when the Rockets were struggling, he went ahead and played Brooks and Landry during some crucial parts of games which really payed off. The second unit does execute the offense better than the first unit. But this team's success in the long-run relies heavily on our first unit performing well. So for now, I think Adelman just wants his first unit to play more together so that they get more experience in the offense.
