Whatever happened to the Rockets' Mojo????

In the first few years of Rudy's tenure as coach, it seemed that the Rockets made all the right moves:

1. Drafting Cassel and Horry who both turned out to be better than their draft position
2. Trading for Drexler
3. Turning one CBA player after another into a legitimate NBA veteran: Mario Elie, Sam Mack, Eldridge Recasner, Emanuel Davis etc., etc., etc.

The past 5 seasons though, the Rockets have made one questionable move after another:

1. Trading for Scottie Pippen
2. drafting the likes of Drew, Collier, Langhi (who we acquired in exchange for Eduardo Najera I might add), Griffin (again for Richard Jefferson and two other players), and Thomas Hamilton
3. signing Kelvin Cato to a $54 million deal
4. trading Kenny Thomas for James Posey

So what's the difference? CD and Rudy T still run the show with Les' money? Were they just extremely lucky in their first half decade? Are they burnt out? I've defended Rudy T's tenure as Rockets coach on this message board before, but I think questioning the moves this organization has made in the past several seasons is more than fair at this point.
