Was the ball "out of bounds" when it hit the ref with about 3 minutes left in the first quarter?

It was the SPURS, so of course, it wasn't called.

On any other team (including our ROCKETS), is this supposed to be out of bounds?

I am pretty good with rules and determining whether a violation occurs, but this one just baffles me. I would have called that.

    What do you all think?

The ref is part of the court.

If the ball hits him while he's in bounds, then it is still in play. If it hits him while he's out of bounds, then it's out of bounds.
