Wanted to start this thread because i just booked my flight with a group of friends to Rio since we won a World Cup ticket lottery to go to a game. Going to be staying for 9 nights, June 24th - July3rd, and was wondering if you all had any suggestions on low cost/safe place to stay, things to do/see, places to eat. Appreciate all the suggestions, really excited to be able to have this experience.

Flight booked and acquired tickets to Spain vs Chile & Argentina vs Bosnia. Stoked.

As far as where to stay, no idea. We're lucky to be staying with a local. From what I've been reading, price gouging seems to be an inevitability with hotels going for as much as 5 times the normal rate.
