Larry Davis playing a neurotic Jewish guy in a film written and directed by Woody Allen? Anything to tide me over until the new season of Curb begins...

Allen & David together: all the world's nebbishness in one film?

Something tells me Scarlett Johansson proves a better muse to Woody Allen than Larry David. (Match Point & Vicky Christina Barcelona stand up with his best works.) Hope I'm wrong.

I think Evan Rachel Wood will be the muse and Larry will just be playing the same role that Woody would normally play, a la Kenneth Branagh in Celebrity.

But I hear what you are saying...

I'm looking forward to Larry doing scripted dialogue as a bona fide comedic actor.

Yeah, Branagh, great actor, did a horrible Woody Allen impersonation, even though it was pitch perfect. Maybe Larry David, lousy or at best a blank slate as an actor, relies more on his own instincts. Just a shame that Woody Allen got too old to play the Woody Allen part. (I thought Will Ferrell did a great job handling Allen's comedic dialogue / timing, in one of the Melindas.)

Though I will definitely see this film, Evan Rachel Wood strikes me as inconsequential compared to Johansson, neither substantial enough as an actress nor jailbaity enough to hold Allen's attention. Per IMDB, both Naomi Watts & Nicole Kidman are going to be in his next feature; that should be good.

FWIW, I think Kobe Doin' Work would be infinitely better if Allen, the other Knicks season ticket holder, were behind the camera. Allen & Bryant have more in common (civil trials & child brides, "huntin' little Mexican girls," as the Mailman liked to put it). But that's just me.
