Man, that just looks wrong... I hear this procedure is really popular among the lesbian community, though...
A lady at work sent me the link and asked me why people are doing this.. Apparently, she figured I'm young and hip so I'd have a pulse on this fashion trend, but I have no clue why someone would want to do this.. Maybe if they could inject venom into my fangs, I'd be interested..
i can't understand tongue splitting, scarification, putting metal things under your skin, piercing your most private sensitive parts and putting huge circles in your ears to expand your ear lobes to the size of a quarter? it's just not cool to me... if that's your culture like african or maori then that's one thing, but to be a suburban kid in the states and do this is just ridiculous... i don't buy the shock value either... i don't know.. kids these days! thank goodness for plastic surgery i guess...
I agree.. I'm sure you guys heard about the people that were into exit wounds a few years ago? I watched some documentary on cable about a kid who paid some dude $200 to shoot him in the shoulder so he could have the exit wound scar and show it off to his friends. What's next castration as art?
Being hip, cool, rad, and swell myself, I know that the next craze is stretching the nerve endings from the back of your eye balls so they fall freely out of the socket. It's either that or using a golden spike to staple both hands together. Hmmmm, you never know....Some people might inquire about the Michael Jackson look.
Oh my, this article is so hilarious. There are just so many good quotes here: He says the cutting was done in three sessions with a scalpel heated by a blow torch and no anesthetic. No anesthetic? Wow. Hilarious. Keen's story is exactly what Illinois state Rep. David Miller, who's also a dentist, had in mind when he authored a bill requiring that tongue-splitting be done by a doctor or dentist, and only for medical reasons. Only for 'medical reasons'? LOL. What could POSSIBLY be a medical reason for having your tongue split? Your mom is a snake and by some freak occurrence you're born with a human tongue? Essie Hakim, a 30-year-old New Yorker who had her tongue split by a surgeon in 1998, says she did have to learn how to speak again. 1998? Oh my! We have a serious trend-setter here. This chick had her tongue split 5 years ago! WTF? She and others believe the Illinois bill, if it passes, will actually do more harm by making it difficult for the most qualified people -- doctors -- to do the procedure. Can you imagine going to school to learn how to split a tongue? Shannon Larratt, a 29-year-old Canadian who had his tongue split by a surgeon, worries that many people will simply go to "underground" parlors to have it done in unsafe conditions. Unsafe conditions? You're getting your freaking tongue cut in two!
I think it's one of the cooler/more useful mods you could get. Hell, you can move the two parts independently! It does bring new meaning to the phrase "white man speak with forked tongue", though. I predict the popularity of this is going to increase and don't understand why they would try to make it illegal. It's their body - let them do what they want with it.
