You know, being how he's our neighborhood reporter on all news that goes on at UT-Austin. If there's an arrest, or someone gets disciplined, we usually get the news from him. Naturally, I only assume he'd post news even quicker when it's good!

Seven former Longhorns were named to the 2010 Hampshire Honor Society, the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced today. The honorees included Ryan Bailey, Chris Hall, Will Harvey, Colt McCoy, Mac McWhorter, Jordan Shipley and Adam Ulatoski. Texas' seven selections were the most in the Big 12 and the second-most in the FBS, trailing only BYU's eight. The NFF Hampshire Honor Society recognizes players in their last year of eligibility who were a starter or significant substitute throughout the season, while achieving a 3.2 cumulative GPA throughout their entire undergraduate career and meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements. "The NFF's mission is to build leaders through football, and this year's Hampshire Honor Society members are living proof of that charge," said NFF Chairman Archie Manning. "Each of these young men has showcased a strong desire to succeed on and off the football field, and we are certainly proud to honor them for their accomplishments as the next generation of our nation's leaders." Bailey, who earned an advertising degree in December, is a two-time first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 selection, a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and a nine-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll. During his career, Bailey was 25-of-30 on FG attempts (.833/No. 2 on UT's all-time list) and 92-of-94 on PATs to score 167 points. A Rimington Trophy finalist (nation's top center), Hall started all 14 games for the Longhorns in 2009 and was named a first-team All-American by the AFCA, a third-team AP All-American and second-team All-Big 12 by the league's coaches. He earned a degree in communication studies-human relations in May of 2009 and spent the '09 season working towards a second degree in Jewish studies. Hall is a four-time Academic All-Big 12 selection and a five-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll. Harvey appeared in 40 career games, including all 14 in 2009, at deep snapper. He earned a finance degree in December, and is an ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 selection, three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 pick and eight-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll. McCoy, a Campbell Trophy finalist in 2009, received his degree in sport management in December and is a four-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection, a six-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll and an Academic All-America nominee. The winningest QB in NCAA history (45 victories), McCoy completed 70.6% of his passes for 3,521 yards and 27 TDs while rushing for 348 yards and three TDs in 2009. In addition to his classroom honors, he was named the Walter Camp Football Foundation Player of the Year and the Maxwell Award (collegiate player of the year), Davey O'Brien Award (nation's top quarterback) and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award (nation's top senior quarterback) winner. McCoy was drafted in the third round of the 2010 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. McWhorter graduated in May of 2009 with a degree in sport management, and is currently working towards a master's degree in advertising. Appearing in 46 games at tight end and on special teams throughout his career, he is a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection, a nine-time member of UT's Athletic Director's Honor Roll and was elected as the College of Education Representative for the UT Student Government. Shipley graduated in December of 2008 with a degree in kinesiology. A first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and four-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll, Shipley spent the 2009 season working towards a master's degree in kinesiology. As a senior, he was a finalist for the Biletnikoff Award (nation's top wide receiver) and a semifinalist for the Maxwell Award, while earning first-team All-America and first-team All-Big 12 honors. He set UT single-season records for receptions (116) and receiving yards (1,485) and tied for first in TDs (13) before being selected in the third round of the NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals. Ulatoski is working towards a master's degree in advertising after graduating in December 2008 with a B.A. in corporate communications. A 2009 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America first-team selection, a three-time first-team Academic All-Big 12 selection and a nine-time member of UT's Athletics Director's Honor Roll, Ulatoski received UT's Lan Hewlett Award, given to the player with the highest cumulative GPA on the team. On the field, he played in 50 games, starting 44, throughout his career, and earned second-team All-America and first-team All-Big 12 honors in 2009. Ulatoski signed a free-agent contract with the Houston Texans. The NFF Hampshire Honor Society capitalizes on the NFF's current National Scholar-Athlete program, greatly expanding the number of scholar-athletes the NFF can recognize each year and further strengthening the organization's leadership role in encouraging academic performance by the student- athletes who play football at the more than 700 college and universities with football programs nationwide. Jon F. Hanson, the chairman and founder of The Hampshire Companies, provided an endowment to launch the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2007. He made the contribution as part of his legacy to the organization after serving as NFF chairman from 1994-2006. The Hampshire Honor Society becomes the latest component of the organization's efforts to promote combined athletic and academic success. Launched in 1959 with a donation from Hall of Fame coach Earl "Red" Blaik, the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete Awards program became the first initiative in history to grant postgraduate scholarships based on a player's combined academic success, football performance and community leadership. Since its inception, the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards program has awarded $9.2 million to 724 top scholars and community leaders. Currently, the NFF distributes more than $300,000 a year at the national level through the program to 15 individuals. Each winner of a National Scholar-Athlete Award receives an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship. Additionally, the Campbell Trophy, endowed by HealthSouth, is given to one member of each year's class as the absolute best. The winner of the Campbell receives a total scholarship of $25,000 and a 24-inch, 25-pound bronze trophy. Through, its chapter network, the NFF awards an additional $800,000 to local high school student-athletes, bringing the NFF's annual scholarship total to more than $1.1 million.
