So I am going to be in need of a job pretty soon, I work as an AML Compliance Analyst for a money transmitting company. The company is probably set to move back to NY and they will get rid of the employees here in Houston. So does anyone know any good staffing agencies that actually help you out and don't just yank your chain. The only good one I ever found was Venturi Staffing.... ?

I'm sure there are some people that have had good experiences with them, and you may as well, but I wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket.

These agencies are paid to find people for jobs, not jobs for people. They will not try to find you a job. If you fit a job they are trying to fill, great...you could benefit. But if they don't have a job they think you are a fit for, you will most likely just be totally ignored.

I used to work as a recruiter and lots of applicants just didn't understand this. They would call and say "have you found anything for me yet?" I would have to tell them no because I don't work for you.

Depends. The key is finding the recruiter that specializes in what you do. If you do then s/he may very well go out proactively looking for a position that fits your background because they already know where those positions are liekly to be. That's my experience anyway. But then again there are a ton of crappy recruiters out there, just like there are a bunch of crappy "fill in the blank" out there.
