    Hey guys,

I've recently starting playing football (soccer) again after a few years of being a lazy bum... though I've recently noticed I'm quite slow. My first step is okay, but after that it's hopeless. I need to lose some excess weight that is no doubt playing a part in this (10-15 lbs roughly to get to my optimum), but I was also wondering what the best way is to train for speed and acceleration? I've been going to the gym the past month to work on my general fitness levels, but am not really sure what kind of exercises work best for my goals.

Also, if you have any other advice (such as diet for example) that greatly affect your performance please post them here! I've been doing some research on the internet, but it's quite vast and sometimes seemingly contradictory so thought I would ask at a site where I trust people a bit more!

I would say to use one of those harnesses or straps for the body and have someone hold you... then explode and try to pull the person away... that adds explosiveness.

I used to also do a training program I bought for $6 that had POWER squats... they would build stamina and accelerate feet response. That same program had a run-then-sprint technique that would strengthen your breathing and lungs... you'd jog the turns on the track, but SPRINT the straightaways and go as fast as you could... you'll be in shape again in a REALLY SHORT TIME.

GOOD FEET vs. BAD FEET conditioning (Mark Eaton proven training  ):

Kind of in relation, how about vertical leap. How should I go about increasing that? Calf raises i know are good, any type of program I should try out?

    Thanks for the help.

That's another thing - I get tired so flippin' quickly. compared to other guys that have massive beer guts I'm still incredibly unfit. Someone suggested one of those breathing things you get at bike shops - any ideas?
