good read. thanks. it is true that the strategy part of coaching is thought way more important than it actually is in the minds of many fans.
Depends on what you are calling strategy. I think starting Barnes and Green is strategy. It was a big boost of confidence for both players and added to their depth. Before this year they both were just decent players and have risen. Had they come off the bench the entire year it's very likely that they do not play with the confidence that they finally start playing with.
too many people think mchale can't coach because the tv cameras don't showing him scribbling on a strategy board. if a coach were to diagram a new play the players have never practised. it would never end well... and they sure as heck will make sure the code word for the play they about to run isn't picked up by the microphones.
Odd timing, given that the strategic decision to go small yesterday was a huge key to GS winning yesterday. Strategy is important. Culture/motivation/ego management are important. You're probably not going to win a title unless you're good at both.
