    LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Some of the children stood on inner-city street corners shaking donation cans. Others asked for special offerings at their churches. Or hawked candy bars at shopping malls. Or peddled cookies at schools, synagogues, anywhere a kind soul might spare a dime or a dollar

    Many of these Pop Warner football players and cheerleaders also left it to their parents to join hundreds of other cash-strapped families across the country in ringing up hefty credit-card debts. So began the latest gush of community contributions and family incomes from towns across America into the coffers of the Walt Disney Co., the global giant that last year turned a profit of $3.4 billion.

    In order to participate in the Pop Warner national football and cheerleading championships in December, children on teams nationwide were required to stay at Disney hotels and buy tickets to other parks within Walt Disney World. Pop Warner stands all but alone among organizations that impose such requirements on teams competing for national titles at the Disney complex. The vast majority of other child athletes travel there either to participate in invitational events with much less at stake than a national championship, or in competitive tournaments in which they face less restrictive requirements for lodging and amusement passes.

    Your bolded sentence makes it seem like it was all Disney's fault. It's not completely Disney's call, but they should have done something to stop it, at least :( :
    They ARE, however, paying for top-notch hotels. A requirement? Maybe it shouldn't have been. :mad:

    I'm thinking of taking the kids there...Holy crap its expensive...$1000 for tickets for 4 hopper passes for 7 days..I'll pay a hell of a lot more for hotel and food, let alone airfare...

    btw, I agree, it shouldn't be a requirement, but disney always gets paid...

    Tigger could be in trouble after allegedly tussling with a 14-year-old boy at the Walt Disney World Theme Park in Orlando, Florida.

    Park officials have temporarily suspended Michael Fedelem, who was dressed up as Tigger when the incident happened.

    The father who took this video says Tigger hit his son, although it's hard to tell exactly what happened in Fedelem’s home video.

    A Disney spokesperson says physical altercations between guests and cast members are not tolerated and they are investigating the incident.

    Disney says they aren't to blame, and in the next breath blames it on Pop Warner for signing the contract with Disney. Disney put the requirement in the contract. Classic psycho-babble from a corporate entity. Were the people with Pop Warner dumb to sign the contract in the first place? Yes. Did they ever expect Disney World would be as expensive as it is today, back in 1997, when the contract was signed? I doubt it. Should they have signed a contract for 13 years?? Definitely not!
