Is it just me or the Rockets are blowing alot of gimmie layups this year? Bonzi is the number 1 culprit but seems everyone had their fair share. WTH?
bonzi and chuck hayes man....they are killing me with those damn missed layups... GO UP STRONG AND DUNK NEXT TIME note: they didn't miss much layups in the last 2-3 games though..

According to the shot charts on NBA.com, Chuck Hayes shooting 62.5% on his layups for the season. Bonzi Wells, by comparison, is shooting 48.9%. Luis Scola is shooting 62.7%. Yao Ming is shooting 61.7%. Tracy McGrady is shooting 54.5%. Actually, Chuck and Luis lead the team amongst regulars in shooting percentage around the basket. And yet, for some reason people always complain about Chuck missing the layups.
That's because his missed layups are fugly and because he is generally all alone when he heaves it up at the basket. Wasn't it Jon Barry who pointed out that Hayes can't hit a layup even when he's by himself in the gym?
Chuck had a bad streak of missing some easy layups. He is generally pretty good at that. Bonzi on the other hand, has just missed some gimmes. Every one misses layups, but it seems Scola, Hayes, and Bonzi are the big contributors to that of late. Rafer has actually improved on hitting those layups. Floater =/= layup though, so as long as he has a solid angle for a layup, it's a good shot.
mcgrady layup percentage would be alot higher if the refs actualy give him calls. mcgrady, sometimes tries to avoid the contact after a foul expecting the call, which usually is a bad percentage since he won't get free throws at the end. oh well, can't blame him though, refs have been so inconsistant. hayes may miss layups, but he also gets his own rebound and put it back, which is fine with me. bonzi has been missing many gimmes which is bad. wonder what's wrong with him.
I completely agree. I was at the game tonight and the Rockets missed some very easy uncontested layups. Scola, Bonzi and Alston were the main culprits although Yao and Tracy have done it a lot on other nights.
Chuck has to be number 1 on this list. I would Bonzi right up there, Rafer doesn't go up strong and throws up those damn floaters....
