If it wasn't bad enough worrying when giving your car to the repair shop. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/localnews/2002060318_tacomacrash12m.html When Kimberly Booker dropped her car off at a Tacoma body shop for a minor repair last week, she wasn't prepared for what she found five days later: her red 2000 Mitsubishi Gallant in a crumpled heap. Booker, 31, of Spanaway, said the owner of the body shop, which also serves as a taxi operation, told her he was driving her sports car when it was involved in a crash early Saturday. Booker said he told her he needed to do some taxi-related business but had no other car to drive, so he took hers. Booker's car was one of eight involved in a crash on the Puyallup River Bridge in Tacoma at 1:23 a.m. Saturday. State Patrol troopers think the pile-up was caused by two people street racing. Three people received minor injuries in the crash, said Trooper Johnny Alexander. While the taxi operator, 43, of University Place, wasn't one of the alleged racers, troopers arrested him on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Alexander said. Charles McGuire, operations manager of Tacoma Far West Taxi, said the owner was using Booker's car to drop off another cab driver when the accident occurred. McGuire said the cab operator offered to let Booker borrow his wife's car until she has a vehicle. She declined the offer. Booker, a student at Pierce College, said she's angry and frustrated that she doesn't have a car to drive. "It's not fair to me to be without," said Booker, a single mother with small children. "I've only had that car long enough to make one car payment."
JERRY: Hey, Tony. TONY: Thanks for coming in, Jerry. JERRY: Sure. TONY: I think I know what's goin' on here, and I just wanna hear it from you. But I want you to be straight with me. Don't lie to me, Jerry. You know that motor oil you're puttin' in there? (reproachful) From one of those quicky lube places, isn't it? JERRY: Well, I change it so often, I mean to come all the way down here... TONY: Jerry, motor oil is the lifeblood of a car. Okay, you put in a low-grade oil, you could damage vital engine parts. Okay. (holds up component) See this gasket? (throws it down) I have no confidence in that gasket. JERRY: I really wanna... TONY: Here's what I wanna do. I wanna overhaul the entire engine. But it's gonna take a major commitment from you. You're gonna have to keep it under sixty miles an hour for a while. You gotta come in, and you gotta get the oil changed every thousand miles. JERRY: How much money is this gonna cost me? TONY: (contempt) Huh. I don't understand you. It's your own car we're Talking about. You know you wrote the wrong mileage down on the form? You barely know the car. You don't know the mileage, you don't know the tyre pressure. When was the last time you even checked the washer fluid? JERRY: The washer fluid is fine. TONY: (angry) The washer fluid is not fine! JERRY: Alright, you know what, uhm... I just wanna take my car, and I'm gonna bring it someplace else. TONY: What d'you mean? JERRY: Just, can I have my car? I wanna pay my bill, I'm gonna be on my way. TONY: Well, the car's on a lift. JERRY: Well, just get it down. TONY: (subdued) Alright. Okay. Well, uhm, wait here and I'll uh, I'll bring it around. There is the sound of a car starting up, then a squeal of tires and Jerry's Saab emerges from the auto shop at high speed. It passes Jerry and Elaine and Races away down the street. They stare open-mouthed after the car, and at each other in astonishment.
Scumbags. I made the mistake of taking my car to Firestone to have them fix the fuel injectors a few months ago. Those morons broke off my passenger side mirror....and tried to duct tape it back on without me noticing it.
Duct tape? My god i mean how stupid can they get. Did they really think someone is not going to notice?
I was on another forum where a lady dropped her car off at a Ford dealership I believe. Imagine her surprise when she's in her rental car and pulls up at the local drive-thru bank and in front of her is... her car. lol.
I read a story like this before, but much worse... This car magazine (I forgot the name) had taken a Mazda RX7 twin turbo on as a project car and had done just about everything you could possibly do to create an ultimate sports car for racing and shows. They had every kind of wild modification you could think of ~ 500+ hp engine, suspension, brakes, interior, sound system, paint, etc. They had finished everything and wanted to put a new set of ultra expensive custom rims and tires on the car. For whatever reason they drop the car off with the expectation of picking it up later (bad idea). Well one of the guys who worked at the wheel shop decided to take it on a high speed test run with the new wheels and totals this one of kind super car worth around 100k (into a bus as I recall).
What happened after that? Did they sue the company or anything like that? It really sucks when people do that kind of stuff and you are trusting them to fix your car and just be professional.
I was at a repair shop waiting to pick up my car when I read the article and only had time to skim through so i'm fuzzy on how it ended. I don't think the guy was hurt in the wreck and the shop's insurance handled the damage. Of course all the labor that went into the car plus all the articles they were going to use the RX 7 in were gone so there is no way they even got close to the true value of the car back.
What a doofus. He should have said that a policeman commandeered the vehicle in order to chase down a gang of supermodel bank robbers. At least that story would have been believable.
This reminds me, I watched a video the other day online that showed a couple of guys who pretended to be interested in buying a used Ford Mustand Cobra. They asked to take it for a test drive and went with the guy working at the dealership who stupidly allowed them to drive it when they said they didn't have a license on them. They burned out the tires all the way down, and pretty much went joy riding with it for like 10 min taking it to the max. It was messed up. then at the end they just returned it and said it's not their color and left. The dealership guy really thought they were going to buy it after what they did to the tires etc. (one of the guys had a dv camera on him recording the ordeal)
