WARNING: This is a toughy, even with Internet searching skills.

Where was the first oval-track race in the *United States* involving automobiles,,,in the present sense of being exclusively gas-powered automobiles?

Hint: the key is an oval-track (versus cross country) and only gas-powered (versus electric). The first US race was cross country, and the first oval-track race was won by electric cars.

Consolation Prize: Where was the first arrest involving a car accident in the US?

HeyPartner: I'm pretty sure the first oval track involving both electric and gas had to be at my house circa 1977.

(of course, that would've just been me farting on the TCR track we all learned to love and hate!)

My oh my! The fun kids had before computers came about!:D

no. that was the first oval-track race, but it was a gas against electric race. where was the first gas-only, oval-track race.

this is a dorky trivia question, but it has special significance to me.

and that last sentence was my hint to Mango.

Not according to my information. "First-ever" type facts are often disputable. All I can say is that my info is being claimed by a professional researcher.

where'd you get the "buffalo" guess, if I might ask.

It was just a guess, buffalo has a legendary oval race track I think made back in the 40's. So I just guessed it.

(Milwaukee Mile) Wisconsin is the best I can come up with on the race. 9-11-03

Still an element of doubt in that answer.

I think you already answered the question in the negative. That was the first race ever, and it was not on an oval track.

still looking for first modern car race of gas-only on a track. The ones preceding that where novelty races.

You guys found the first race ever...Jackson Park to Evanston, Ill and back, and

the first oval track race pitting electrics against gas.
