Question re: Troy Daniels

    Assuming we're over the cap next year, what is the max we can offer Daniels when his contract expires in 2015? Really believe he's setup well to get 15-20 minutes a game this season, and would hate to lose him to a team with a lot of cap space.

    We won't have his bird rights, but I believe you can offer more than the minimum to a player on a two year contract.

    Also, let's assume we intend to use the MLE and BAE on other players.

    The Rockets will have Early Bird rights on Daniels and could essentially offer him a full MLE-sized deal in 2015, which would be separate from any MLE that they'd otherwise be able to use on other free agents.

    Furthermore, if Daniels somehow merited a contract above the full Non-Taxpayer MLE level (which I doubt at this point), he would fall within the Gilbert Arenas Rule as a free agent. Could someone throw a "poison pill" offer sheet at Daniels that would be painful to match? Sure. But I doubt he will be the level of free agent that Asik or Lin were in 2012.

    I guess things are pretty good if we are worrying about daniels and his free agency status in 2015.
