Okay Houstonians... I need some advice. I am going to come down to Houston for the weekend after Christmas. From December 28th through January 1st. Here's the information I am looking for: Where the best areas of town are for hotels. I plan to rent a car and go to two of the Rockets games Toronto and Golden State (if I can find and afford tickets). So I don't know if those two things make a difference on where you would recommend staying. If there are any areas of town I should stay away from. Which airport you recommend flying into. Stuff like that. Any and all help is greatly appreciated!
u can stay at mig/moe's place btw, the suite schedule hasn't came out yet, but if that toronto game is a B (cheap) game, might plan that game as for places, just get a place near the Galleria and/or Kirby area, its basically 10-15 mins from the arena
we brought that up in the chat. i like how we're giving out their place without asking. i'm sure it would be cool though. all i know is we are going to get drunk and...talk about the rockets. i'm excited!
lol I am looking at the Crown on Smith. I told them we can get drunk and crash at the hotel... closer than mig/moe's as I understand it. The places near the Galleria seem expensive (at least for me) maybe I am looking at the wrong spots?
Congrats, I could have sworn I read somewhere that you were originally from Houston. Whats your trip budget and the most your willing to spend per-night at a hotel? Thats real cool you'll be here for new years.
me? No, I was born and raised in Kentucky. I am looking at packages. The goal is to get the cost under $1000 for the whole weekend. Right now it looks like the airline ticket is going to cost me around 250 bucks... but I will keep an eye on it. So that leaves me with like.. right around 100 bucks a night for the hotel and still leave room for spending money and such. The reason I choose New Years is I figure there will be lots of stuff going on. There were two games in town during that weekend and because I work in accounting, once the new year hits I am not allowed to take vacation time again until after April 15th (company policy).
Yeah airline tickets will always be spiked that time of year... Like Dave said though about the Toronto game, it could be listed as a cheap game.. but maybe not so because the Raptors are actually decent and a lot of fun to watch nowadays. Anyways, if the management has what they had last year with the rowdies and 20 available tickets at the door, you just have to show up decked in some red and they would hand you free tickets in the rowdy section. I did it a few times and it worked smoothly; if you like to yell a lot and have a good time at any sporting event, the rowdy sections for you... The rowdy section has the atmosphere of a college game, it's a beautiful thing . Galleria part is the roxs, what sucks about Houston is that everything is spread out and driving around here isn't an enjoyable experience at all, but wherever you end up things are usually pretty cheap. To get drunk and party for new years shouldn't cost much at all if thats your thing, almost free. Recommendations? I'm not sure, theres so much you could do here thats pretty cheap and you only have a weekend, it just all depends on your interests and if you like sight-seeing or whatnot. Walking downtown Houston or driving down westheimer(food) you'll always spot something to do to burn time. I'd stay away from 5th ward of course, but thats a given. Kentucky.. mmhmmm, Wildcats fan then eh? So thats why you like your homeboy Chuck Hayes haha. My family is from Paducah, KY. Wish I could have been more helpful, I'm sure someone else will give you the info you need.
